Every year for Dr. Seuss's birthday, my kids celebrate him in school by reading his books, dressing up as his characters, and eating cute snacks inspired by his incredible and inspiring imagination.

As much as I LOVE Dr. Seuss, I've never posted any fun snack ideas that you can make to celebrate his birthday! 🤦‍♀️

That ends today! (and I have more queued up to post soon too – including a super cute Truffula trees snack you don't want to miss!)

Here I have some adorable Rice Krispy Treats that are decorated for 1 Fish 2 Fish, which was one of my boys' favorite books when they were super little.

This snack is very fun but the BEST part about it is how easy it is to make! If you're short on time, skip making the Rice Krispy bars yourself and just use the store-bought ones.

This 1Fish2Fish snack is perfect for an after school treat, a birthday celebration, a party, a playdate, or any other excuse you can find to bring out the cute and creative!

1 Fish, 2 Fish Rice Krispies Ingredients and Supplies Needed

Here's what you'll need to make these treats – this list may look long, but TRUST ME, the process is quick and easy!

  • White Candy Balls or Mermaid Mix (which includes sprinkles)
  • Store bought Rice Krispy treats (or homemade)
  • Goldfish Snacks
  • Blue Candy Melts
  • Parchment-lined baking sheet
  • Deep Small bowl
  • Paper Straws 100% Biodegradable

How to Make This 1 Fish 2 Fish Snack

Five simple steps stand between you and Pinterest envy (you know, all those beautiful, inspiring projects that you see and know you can never pull off? Well, this is one you CAN pull off!)!

Step 1

Melt chocolate according to the package instructions.

Step 2

Place the straws into the bottom of the rice krispy treats

Step 3

Dip the treat at an angel into the chocolate, covering most of the front and top of the treat.

Step 4

Immediately add goldfish and sprinkles (for the bubbles in the water).

Step 5

Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and let set for 20-25 mins.

Important Notes for One Fish 2 Fish Recipe Success

The parchment lined baking sheet works so that you can move the treats around while they dry.

Because the treats are laid out on parchment paper, I would not recommend dipping the entire treat (front and back) into the chocolate, or else it will leave a thick coating of chocolate sticking out the sides of the treat, if you use too much.

Take note not to burn the chocolate. Purchase candy melts in your desired color, as opposed to trying to color it.

Lastly, any left-over chocolate can be poured into a Ziplock bag immediately after use. Lay flat and let the chocolate harden. It can be stored in that Ziplock for reuse. Just melt it like you did originally.

Rice Krispy Treat FAQs

It's understandable to have a few questions when trying a new recipe. Here are the answers to some of the most popular questions about this recipe.

How Long Do Rice Krispie Treats Last?

When sealed in an airtight container, these treats will only last a couple of days before getting hard.

Can You Freeze Rice Krispie Treats?

If you have more than you can eat in a couple of days, you can freeze these treats. I would recommend removing the goldfish (or not adding them), though.

To freeze them, place them in a freezer bag in layers separated by wax paper. Freeze for up to 6 weeks.

To Thaw: Let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.

Aren't these snacks SO cute? I love how they turned out, and my kids couldn't wait to devour them!
