Get In The Festive Spirit By Making Quick Halloween Crafts

Halloween is right around the corner!

We're starting to get ready for it in our house…this year's costumes are being decided, we are planning which haunted house to visit (our 12-year-old's first time), and we are figuring out which day we can visit the corn maze and hang up our decorations.

Nothing helps build excitement or gets kids in the holiday spirit like making holiday-related crafts!

My kids and I recently made this bookmark and had so much fun with it, that they asked me to share it with you!

DIY Halloween Bookmarks: Witch Bookmarks Tutorial

First, prepare all the materials needed for this tutorial. Here is your list of needed supplies:

  • a piece of popsicle stick
  • several pieces of crafting felt (yellow, green, orange, black and purple)
  • paint brush
  • black acrylic paint
  • a pair of scissors
  • hot glue

Halloween Witch Bookmark Craft Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Paint the popsicle stick with black acrylic paint. Let it dry for an hour.

Step 2: Cut an orange strip from the crafting felt. The width of this should be at least 1 to 1.5 centimeters.

Step 3: Cut a head-shape from the green craft felt. Take note that the witch is a woman so the silhouette of the hair on each side of the face should be prominent.

Step 4: Cut two sides of the short hair from the orange strip. The shape should be the same as the hair silhouette made on the green head from step 3.

Step 5: Hot Glue the orange hair on both sides of the witch’s head.

Step 6: Cut a witch hat from the black crafting felt.

Step 7: Hot glue the witch hat on top of the head.

Step 8: Cut a small strip of purple felt. This will be the ribbon of the witch’s hat.

Step 9: Hot glue the hat’s ribbon. Cut the eyes, nose, mouth, and dimples of the witch from the craft paper. Hot glue the details on the face of the witch.

Step 10: Hot glue the head of the witch at the end of the black popsicle stick.

Step 11: Cut a thin strip of orange felt and use this as an accent to the popsicle stick body. Glue the orange strip in a diagonal manner and parallel to each other.

Step 12: Finally done! You now celebrate Halloween while reading your favorite book!

A Few Notes about Making This Easy Halloween Bookmark Craft

If you’re making these bookmarks at home and can give your younger kids some help, this is a great activity for any school-age child.

However, in a classroom setting these bookmarks are going to work best in upper-grade classrooms (3rd or 4th grade and up) because kids do need to be able to cut and wrap fairly accurately.

Because of the danger of getting burned with the hot glue gun, I strongly recommend having adult help or supervision for the gluing portion of this craft until 6th grade.

You can personalize the witch bookmark with colors and different shapes to suit your own personality!

You can also make several of these for your friends, or this can also be a good treat for the trick-or-treaters this coming Halloween.

Hope you liked it this easy Halloween bookmark craft!
