Reaching the sky: New Beginnings for Baseball in Pakistan

The recent trend in a new range of different sports being played in Pakistan has seen another contribution in the form of a Baseball field in the city of Skardu. Residing at 2,228 meters, this new field has taken Denver (Colorado, USA) as the world’s highest baseball location, which was located at around 1,564 meters.

Through aggressive promotion of the sport by PFB (Pakistan Federation Baseball) it has started seeing a rise in popularity, which is further increased due to this ambitious project coming to fruition.

This new interest has resulted in a championship being held at the field in Skardu, on the 29th and 30th of October. The championship will feature four teams, each representing their district and will be the inaugural event to kick things off for a bright future for the sport.
The promotional tour will then head on to open a National Baseball Academy in Skardu on the 31st of October. On the very same day an exhibition match will be held featuring the best players from all over Pakistan divided into two teams, Pakistan Green and Pakistan White, representing the two colors of the nation’s flag.

The destination will be switched to Gilgit next, where on 3rd November a second exhibition match will be played, followed by a course for Level-1 baseball coaches on the 3rd and 4th of November.

Currently ranking 27th on the WBSC Baseball World Rankings, Pakistan is set to make strides in the future if the PFB plays its cards right and such a level of commitment is kept up.
