Successful South Korean automaker Hyundai’s cash champ and a mid size sedan is going to get a new face as 2020 Hyundai Verna marked its arrival at the 2019 Chengdu Motor Show and expected to launch in India by March 2020 and the BS6 diesel Verna is only expected after April 2020. A few spy shots of its interiors have been released. Hyundai had launched the current version of the Verna back in 2017, hence an update or a facelift was long overdue.

Let’s analyse what’s new this car will offer in 2020.

The Exterior

The 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift has been spotted in new color shade, goldish brown, some might say. The car showcased here might not carry the same design and India’s facelift of Verna is likely to see some different exterior design.

The Facelift version now gets a sharp cascading grille upfront which is now larger than before. The design has been borrowed from its elder sibling, Hyundai Elantra and Sonata. The latter has been discontinued in the Indian markets. The length of the car has been increased by 25 mm than its predecessor.

The sedan receives a refreshed headlamp design along with LED DRLs. At also got a new bumper with satin grey bits and black plastic. The bigger chrome slats houses the Hyundai emblem which is a clever design.

If we talk about side profile then a lot of new changes are evident here like an all-new alloy wheel design while the top trims of the sedan might get dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the rear, there is a light strip which connects the taillights. The license plate is now placed a bit lower, but is still on the boot, while the rear bumper also gets rectangular, vertically-placed reflectors and a dual-tone faux-diffuser, replete with satin aluminium trim.

The Interior

Compared to the more than significant changes seen on the car’s exterior, there aren’t many design or layout tweaks seen on the inside. While the dashboard layout remains the same, the updated car does get minor tweaks in the form of a different interior shade and seat texture combination. However, the big news is the inclusion of a digital instrument cluster, which will soon become a common feature in upcoming Hyundai models.

Additionally, Hyundai is also expected to equip the refreshed Verna with a slightly larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with a better interface than the current model’s 7.0-inch unit. The Hyundai BlueLink connected car tech will also be included on the updated Verna like we have seen in Venue and Elantra Facelift.

Highlights

• The 2020 Hyundai Verna Facelift will go on sale in China first and will be launched in India at some time later on August 2020.
• The 2020 Hyundai Verna Facelift carries the same design language as the recently launched 2020 Hyundai Elantra and the upcoming 2020 Hyundai Creta.
• The 2020 Verna will also be featuring Hyundai BlueLink connected car technology that debuted in the Venue launched earlier this year.
• The Chinese specification new Verna gets the 1.4-litre 4 cylinder petrol engine.
• However, the Indian Hyundai Verna will be offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that are currently doing its duty on the KIA Seltos.
• A 1.4 Turbocharged GDI engine and a 48W mild-hybrid system could also be offered. All these engine options will be BS6 compliant.
• On the exterior, the 2020 Verna gets a cascading grille with sleek headlamps and a sharp-edged bumper. The Verna also gets new precision-cut alloy wheels. At the back, the car gets wraparound LED taillights that are connected to each other and a sporty bumper.
• Interior-wise, the 2020 Verna comes equipped with a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an all-digital instrument cluster, which will also be featured in the 2020 Hyundai Creta and 2020 Hyundai Elite i20. The Verna will also get wireless phone charging and the Hyundai BlueLink connected car features.
• The New Hyundai Verna Facelift will compete with the Honda City, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Power Sources

Under the hood, the sedan will carry an all-new BS6 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines, borrowed from the Kia Seltos. The manufacturer will discontinue the 1.4 and 1.6-litre diesel and 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor.

The Rivals

The refreshed Hyundai Verna will somewhere launch after the mid-2020 and will set its competition with the all-Honda City which will come to India in the latter half of next year, the model will also rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Vento.
