What is The Best Email Marketing Service Provider for Beginners

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read our disclosure.

These times you don’t do everything yourself like you used to before, right?

You don’t have to know how to do everything.

You can outsource some stuff, get apps that will help you or some plugins that will make doing a particular job easier and quicker.

Nowadays, the World focuses a lot on saving time. We’re doing so much in less time than we used to a few years ago.

It’s no different with marketing. Email marketing in particular.

We automate the campaigns we’re sending to our subscribers and we create algorithms that segment them.

If we hadn’t used the email marketing service providers we would lose a lot of time.

Before I’ll talk about what Email service provider is the best one for beginners let’s talk why you should collect and send emails to your subscribers in the first place.

Why No One Should Underestimate the Power of Email Marketing

People used to say that Email Marketing is dead and that there are better ways to get closer to your potential buyer.

Well, they don’t say that anymore.

There are still some important reasons why Marketing to your email list shouldn’t be pushed aside.

Why is Email Marketing Still So Popular

  • Cheap – it’s really affordable compared to other marketing strategies. Some email companies actually offer free plans until you reach a certain amount of subscribers or emails sent.
  • Not Difficult to Do – creating email campaigns isn’t as complicated as it sounds. It’s actually much easier than doing it on social media. Email marketing can be very advanced yet simple to use and even a beginner will have no problems doing it.
  • Automation Saves You Time – as I’ve said before automation of email marketing is on a very high level and the higher the level the more time we can save.
  • Easily Measureable – it probably wasn’t like that in the beginning but now every tool has some really advanced analytics that show you everything. How many times your email was opened, the number of clicks, conversions. It has a lot of features that help your decision making.
  • Being Online almost 24/7 Increases the Power of Email Marketing – thanks to mobile devices we use the Internet more and more, we’re online almost all the time and that helps email marketing because people have access to their mailboxes wherever they are and they can open an email anytime they want.
  • We Can Make Them Direct and Personalized – emails are already personal because we deliver them to personal mailboxes but only by adding a few tweaks we can make them even better than other types of marketing strategies when it comes to the directness and personalization.
  • Emails have an Awesome ROI – if any of the reasons above didn’t really convince you that emails are the way to go then this one should. Email marketing has higher ROI than any other marketing strategy. Just check it here!

As you can see this strategy isn’t dying. I would say that it’s getting better and more effective as time goes by.

If you’re not collecting email addresses and reaching your subscribers you should start right now!

Let’s find out now what email marketing service provider would be the best for someone who is just starting!

Why MailChimp is Great for Beginners

www.mailchimp.com

There is a lot of marketing companies that specialize in automating emails.

Some are more and some are less advanced. Some are more user friendly and some are built for a specific type of user.

However, in this guide I’m focusing particularly on a specific type of user: a beginner with low budget and that’s why I believe MailChimp is pretty good for such person.

Why?

Let’s find out!

Why Should a Beginner Use MailChimp Instead of Other Companies:

  • FREE Plan – most of the features are available in a free plan they offer for people who don’t need to send more than 10,000 emails/month to more than 2,000 subscribers – that is absolutely enough for a beginner and it makes MailChimp a perfect provider
  • Super Simple – the interface is clean. It’s easy to navigate and find all the options you need.
  • Lots of Integrations to Choose From – it is possible to connect your MailChimp account to a lot of third-party apps and web services. Just go here and check whether they offer what you’re looking for.
  • It’s not Only an Email Service Provider – what else can it do? You can create your own signup forms, ads, landing pages, postcard, social posts. Learn more here.
  • The Template Editor is Pretty Good – lots of templates to choose from, easy to use and powerful drag and drop customization options
  • Standard Email Types are There – templates for both newsletters and autoresponders are there ready to use
  • Good Analytics – the reporting is very detailed and you can even integrate it with Google Analytics
  • Email List Segmentation – MailChimp allows you to segment your leads and market to different people differently
  • Deliverability of Emails – the number is quite good, it is in the middle, there are some better providers in this area, just look here.
  • The Support – it’s limited for for FREE plan customers but it has a big knowledge base with lots of solving problem content
  • Mobile Apps – MailChimp offers mobile apps for iOS and Andorid devices

Even though there are a lot of pros of using MailChimp there are obviously some cons as well.

Let’s find out what they are.

Things That Will Make You Think Again Before Choosing MailChimp:

  • Other Plans are Expensive – having a FREE plan makes MailChimp great for people who are just starting their online journey but as soon as they exceed the number of emails or subscribers it becomes a bit more expensive than if you’d use their competitors
  • The Email Automation Isn’t of The Highest Level – more advanced automation options are not that good at MailChimp
  • Not for Affiliate Marketers – if you want to promote affiliate marketing through emails then MailChimp isn’t for you. Their rules prohibit it.

So, you know the pros and cons now of MailChimp now. To show you even more let’s try to make a email marketing campaign step-by-step.

Let’s go!

How to Set Up a Campaign on MailChimp

So, for the purpose of this tutorial let’s assume you’ve already registered a MailChimp account.

We’ll go directly to the main page and try to create a campaign right from there.

What kind of campaign we’ll create?

We’ll create a simple welcome email.

The first thing we need to do is to choose Create Campaign inside the dashboard.

Then we have to choose the Email template.

Since we’d like to make it work on an autopilot we go the Automated group and choose a Welcome new Subscribers template.

In the next menu we choose Single email. In this window we have to create the name of the campaign and choose the Audience we’d like to send it to. If we’ve done it all click Begin in the bottom.

If you didn’t create your audience yet this will help you.

We are in a editing menu now. We got four different things to do there.

Let’s go through them one by one. The first one is Sends to.

Only two things to set there. The time the email will be sent after your subscriber joins your list and whether it should send an email after you import a new list.

It obviously depends a lot but if it was a new list I’d send the email immediately and I wouldn’t trigger any imported contacts.

You just need to Save your changes and we can go to the second step.

In this one we can change the sender’s name and email address.

I’ll just leave it as it is.

The next thing is the subject and and the preview – the two things the receiver of this email will see before he opens it.

This is quite important as it will decide whether the person you’re sending it to will open it or not. You can learn how to write great subject lines here.

The last and probably the biggest part of this email is the content.

Let’s check what the email you’ll edit looks like.

Ok, when it comes to editing your email we can either change the content and its type or the design of the whole template. The comments part can be used if you’d like to get some feedback from people who receive it.

If it’s finished you have to choose Save and Continue in the bottom right corner.

And to start sending it just click Start Sending it in the upper right right corner of the next menu.

So, that’s it. You’ve created your first email template. Well done.

Wasn’t that hard, right?

Let’s go to another thing.

MailChimp is Great for Beginners but What To Do When You Go Beyond Your FREE Numbers

As we have found in the paragraphs before MailChimp can be a pretty good email marketing service provider.

It’s awesome for beginners. Mainly because it’s FREE untill you reach particular numbers of emails sent and subscribers.

Like every other tool it has both some pros and cons but most of the features a newbie would look for are there in that FREE plan.

In the future, however, you might go beyond these FREE numbers and MailChimp becomes quite expensive after that.

What to do then?

I’d suggest to use ConvertKit. You can check all of their features here.

So, that’s it. Hope you liked the guide.
