Blogging – it’s not the first time this term shows up when typing “make money online” in a search engine.

It’s still very a popular – even after all of these years – way to earn some bucks.

It obviously evolved over the years, it became probably the most popular way to rank your website high in the search rankings and a lot of business use it nowadays.

But how do things become that popular?

They either work, are super profitable or easy to do, right?

So, the question I want to ask today is:

Is blogging difficult or easy?

Let’s try to answer this question straight away!

What’s Easy About Blogging?

There’s a Lot of Free Blogging Knowledge Out There

As we mentioned before Blogging is quite old. The first blog was created in 1994.

Even though the way which the blogs are being run changed over the years there’s absolutely a huge base of knowledge on the Web.

You can learn literally anything.

From starting a blog, choosing a hosting, installing a CMS, using plugins, setting ads, monetizing your blog with affiliate offers, SEO to using social media to get traffic.

You name it – it’s there waiting for you to dive into it and use on your own blog.

That’s a big plus when it comes to blogging. All you need to know is available for you.

It’s not that easy for other kinds of online businesses.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Code to Run a Blog

You might say that the most of online businesses don’t need coding knowledge.

While it’s true it wasn’t always like that with blogging.

In the early days to make some changes on your website you either had to know a particular programming language or you had to hire a professional.

These days are long gone.

Not only a CMS is more functional than before but if we’d like to extend our blog’s capabilites then we can use things called “Plugins”.

They’re these little programs that help you get the most out of your content management system and mould your blog into a website of your dreams.

Once You Start Ranking It’s Easier To Get More Traffic

The first few months are Difficult to go through because nothing happens on your website.

No one is coming from search engines and it’s a really depressing moment of your blogging journey.

However those who prevail will be rewarded.

Google needs to trust you first and as soon as you’ll start getting your first visitors you’ll get more and more.

It’s just the way it works.

Every new article you create will get ranked faster than the ones before him.

Your authority in your niche will rise and Google will value you with even more traffic.

You Can Outsource Anything

You don’t like guest post outreach or don’t know how to write converting emails?

Outsource that!

There’s not a thing that a blogger can’t ask someone else to do it.

There are thousands of freelancers who’d it for very low prices.

Where to find them?

Places like Fiverr or Legiit are the best when it comes to everything related to blogging, SEO, web design, etc.

Look at the reviews, check the prices and try it out!

Ok, so we’ve covered everything that is actually easy to do when running your own blog but there’s obviously the other side of the medal: the difficult stuff.

Let’s go through it, now!

What’s Hard About Blogging?

Competition is High

It’s been more than 20 years since the first blog was created.

No wonder there is lots of competition, right?

That’s why you have to make thorough research when choosing your niche.

But even if you do that part well don’t expect that you’ll be the only guy or gal inside this very area of the Web.

There is still going be a lot of websites to beat.

The rivalry is great – whatever the niche.

SEO Rules Change All The Time

Google updates their algorithm at least a few times a year.

Each time they announce it the shivers go through bloggers spines.

They don’t know what to expect.

The things they focused on few months before may not be as relevant now.

You need to constantly learn the SEO, analyze what’s hapenning to your and other’s websites and never stop improving. This is hard work.

If you want to be less scared of each of the Google updates make sure you don’t do blackhat seo.

It Takes a Lot of Time to Rank in Google

If this is your first blog then the first few months can be really tough.

Even though you’ve read that it takes six or more months for a new site to rank in Google you’re still asking yourself lots of questions.

Do I really have to be that patient or I did something wrong?

Perhaps I need more backlinks to rank?

Maybe I’ve choosen keywords that are too competitive.

These go through your mind all the time and you’re on the verge of quitting.

This period is really hard and a lot of folks who just started learning blogging just give up.

It Takes a Lot of Time and Effort (or Money) to Succeed

Most of people who started their online journey thought that starting a blog would be easy.

They’ve found out that it’s actually the opposite.

It takes an enormous amount of work to do it right – especially when you still work in your 9-5 job.

The discipline is key here.

Even you only have one hour a day to do learn new stuff you have to make sure you use it properly or you have to spend money outsourcing it.

There’s a LOT to Learn

Blogging isn’t just writing.

It’s so much more than that.

You got to learn the SEO, the promotion, to collaborate with others, to test your solutions, to read the analytics, to run your blog from a technical point of view and many other things.

Of course, you can outsource some of those things if you have money.

But what if you don’t have it?

The only thing is to spend hours and hours and learn it through many failures.

Sounds exhausting? It is.

Blogging Is Hard If You’re Taking It Seriously

Running a blog obviously consists of a lot of different activities.

Some of these activities are harder to learn and do and some are the opposite.

Blogging itself may look easy, what’s difficult is getting ranked and getting traffic. Competing with older and much more established websites is the greatest challenge here.

You can write a really decent piece of content that brings tons of value to your readers but if you’re new to the game it will be almost impossible to beat the old dogs.

So, to sum it up: running a blog is easy as long as you don’t care about the number of visitors that come to read your content.

As soon as that’s your main metric it’s getting hard.

Really hard.
