The Masterchef Australia fan-favourite has revealed the various ways he has prepared himself for the hit 10 series such as living off rations, learning survival skills and undertaking specialised training.

‘If I put my mind to something it is a 100 per cent effort. I am not half-a**ing around,’ the restaurateur told The Herald Sun.

‘I am doing Survivor and I would like to win, so I am giving myself the best chance to do so.’

Ong and his sister travelled to the Northern Territory last year for outback survival training and to learn how to forage for food and resources.

‘If I put my mind to something it is a 100 per cent effort’: Ong, who along with his sister Amy is currently competing on the new season, explained that he went to the lengths he did as he wanted to win at all costs

‘Amy and I flew to Darwin to see a survival specialist who taught us how to make fire, how to find food, how to make shelter, what plants were edible and which ones weren’t, and what I could make rope and tools out of.’

Ong lived off rations for a period of time and started to reduce his calorie intake.

‘I trained myself to survive off 1200 calories a day and then a week out from filming I bumped it up so I was eating 2500 – 3000 calories so they become fat stores,’ he revealed.

Before the series: Ong and his sister travelled to the Northern Territory last year for outback survival training and to learn how to forage for food and resources. He also lived off rations for a period of time and started to reduce his calorie intake

He also took up strength training in Melbourne during Victoria’s fourth lockdown and worked on puzzles to improve his dexterity.
