Rivers of Living Water

                    John 7:38; ?

John 7:38

v38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (KJV)

There is no such prophecy in the Old Testament, try and search as much as you may you won’t find it anywhere in the Old Testament. This is an example of a fabricated prophecy in the New Testament. Or maybe there are other scriptures outside the Old Testament which got lost of which John has Jesus quoting, I don’t know. If it was just fabricated of which it seems so, then the New Testament gospels cannot be reliable and fully trusted as narrating accurate historical accounts of Jesus.

Though I need to make one point clear, I could be wrong concerning my idea that the Gospel Authors fabricated prophecies. It is possible they may have quoted books that have now been lost or never made it in the canon. In the bible there are books which are mentioned that lay people including me don’t seem to know about. Such books include:

  1. The book of the wars of the LORD (Numbers 21:14)
  2. The book of Jasher (Joshua 10:13; 2Samuel 1:18)
  3. The book of the acts of Solomon (1Kings 11:41)
  4. The book of Nathan (1Chronicles 29:29)
  5. The book of Gad (1Chronicles 29:29)
  6. The prophecy of Ahijah (2Chronicles 9:29)
  7. The visions of Iddo (2Chronicles 9:29)
  8. The book of Shemaiah (2Chronicles 12:15)
  9. The book of Jehu (2Chronicles 20:34)

There is a possibility that the gospel authors may have quoted from these books for certain prophecies that we cannot find in the Old Testament. However, if we take the consensus view of biblical scholars that the New Testament was originally written in Greek and the gospel authors obviously used the Septuagint for Old Testament references, it is highly unlikely that these books above were present in the Septuagint. And even if they were, we have seen to what lengths the gospel authors were willing to go in order to distort and twist passages in the Old Testament as they presented their case for Christ. What if they did the same with these other books? Their integrity and reputation is already tainted.
