How To Stop Getting So Many Junk Emails

Email is among the main modes of communication for many people, whether individuals or organizations. Statistics show that over 306.4 billion Emails were sent in 2020, and the emails are expected to increase to over 376 billion by 2025.

However, not every email comes from a legitimate source. Most people receive Junk Emails from unknown sources containing illegal content or even links from hackers. If you’ve been getting junk emails, here are several ways to get rid of them.

What is a Junk Email?

A junk email or spam email refers to an illegitimate or uninvited email sent by email spamming to your inbox. Some emails may appear legitimate at first because the senders often use names of organizations that you may be aware of, while others come as spoof emails where the header looks like it is coming from a legitimate source. This may trick you into thinking that the email is from a legitimate source.

How to Stop Getting Junk Emails

Report Emails as Spam

Deleting or archiving sperm emails is not the solution because they will keep coming. It is best to report the emails to your email provider. To report this, select the junk email or several of them by checking the boxes next to the emails and clicking the exclamation buttons and the top of the email window. Once you click it, it will send the emails to your junk folder, blocking subsequent emails from the same sender.

Avoid Giving Out Your Email Randomly

Treat your email address as a valuable part of your communication platforms and guard it well. You should avoid giving it out to just anyone who asks for your email because some may use it to send spam emails. This mostly happens in open forums where people drop their emails to receive certain content.

Hackers often take advantage of this and use the emails to send illegitimate information or links to junk emails that can compromise personal data. Also, avoid leaving your email addresses on questionable websites. Guard your emails and only give them out to the people or organizations you know.

Block Spam Emails

One of the easiest options to stop junk emails is by blocking them. To block the emails, select the email you want to block, go to the right side of the sender’s details with a three-dot icon, and click “block.”

Blocking emails from a sender means that future emails will no longer come to your inbox. This process applies to all email clients. Meaning you should block spam emails on different accounts, whether Yahoo, Gmail or other client emails.

Hide Your Email Address

When you expose your emails on several platforms, hackers can fish them out and start sending you spam emails. You should either hide or delete your emails to keep them away from the public domain.

Check your social media accounts such as Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter if they have your email addresses and hide or delete them. You can only leave them open for the people you know that can send you genuine emails. This could be your friends, family members, or colleagues.

Unsubscribe from Mailing Lists

Another option to stop junk emails is unsubscribing from your subscribed email lists. Check the unsubscribe option at the top or bottom of the junk email and click the button.
Some emails might take you to the next steps, while others may unsubscribe you immediately. Just be sure that you unsubscribe successfully.
