Match Preview

South Africa are suddenly playing like the South Africa we were used to seeing once. In the second ODI against Australia at Bloemfontein, South Africa produced another clinical show to secure a comfortable 6-wicket win and seal the series 2-0 with one more match still to go. Australia were outplayed in all the departments and will have to go back to the drawing board. South Africa, meanwhile, will hope to continue this great run and affect a clean sweep by winning the 3rd and final ODI on Saturday.

South Africa Match Form

South Africa uncovered a new batting star in Janneman Malan in the last match as the young opener smashed a wonderful unbeaten 129 – a maiden hundred in only his second ODI  – and helped the team chase down the target of 272 with ease. JJ Smuts (41), Heinrich Klaasen (51) and David Miller (37*) also contributed and showed that the team’s batting depth is thriving with youth and experience. If captain Quinton de Kock too can get going at the top, this South African batting will now look imposing.

South Africa’s bowling was led by Lungi Ngidi in the last match who returned with a career-best haul of 6-58. In Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi and Anrich Nortje South Africa now has enough options and variety in the bowling department to stop the opposition.

Australia Match Form

Australia were again found wanting in the ODI format and were below par. Their batting wasn’t consistent enough and barring captain Aaron Finch (69) and D Arcy Short (69), the others failed. Marnus Labuschagne’s presence in the middle-order should perhaps now be questioned and Alex Carey’s regular failures down the order are a concern.

Australia’s bowling has looked toothless on pitches that offer something to the seamers. They have so much talent in Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa. However, they aren’t doing enough and the support bowlers like Mitchell Marsh and Ashton Agar have been ineffective.

South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI Cricket Betting Tips

Senwes Park in Potchefstroom – the venue for the 3rd and final ODI between South Africa vs Australia – has been a good batting surface. Totals of 300-plus have been achieved here on 4 occasions with the highest one being a massive 418-5 by South Africa against Zimbabwe in 2006.

The average total batting first on this ground is 227. However, the team batting first in this ODI will be looking to set a total in the range of 270-280 runs.

Australia must be wounded and will try desperately to salvage a win in the final ODI. However, they seem a little brittle in their batting and bowling right now and are too dependent on a few stars to do the main job. South Africa, on the other hand, are looking better in all the departments and have found the right blend of youth and experience to win games. They will also have the home advantage and should thus win the last match and sweep the series.
