Serie A: Torino vs Sampdoria Soccer Betting Tips – February 8th, 2020

Match Preview

Torino will look to end their winless run when they host Sampdoria at the Olimpico di Torino on Saturday.

Torino Match Form

After starting the new year with three consecutive wins, Torino have gone off the boil. Since winning against Bologna, they have lost four games in succession. The most damaging of those losses was a 7-0 defeat to Atalanta on their home turf. Torino ended the game with nine men on the pitch, and it was a very humiliating result. They must have hoped to bounce back after that loss, but the opposite has happened.

Torino have lost their last two games, conceding four goals in each one. Milan beat them 4-2 in the Coppa Italia quarter-final. Torino led 2-1 in that game in stoppage time, but Hakan Calhanoglu scored the equalizer to send the game to extra-time. Milan scored twice to knock Torino out of the competition. In their last league game, Torino faced promoted side Lecce. They conceded another four goals on their way to a 4-0 loss.

Now Torino have conceded 39 goals in the league, which is among the league’s worst defensive records. As a result of their recent slide, Torino have dropped into 12th place. Genoa in 18th place are still 11 points below them, so relegation is not a problem despite the poor form. However, European football seems like a faraway possibility now for Torino. Cagliari in sixth place are five points above, and there are many teams in between the two sides.

Sampdoria Match Form

Sampdoria is another side who have not picked up a win in the last three games. They are in 16th place, just four points clear of the drop zone. Sampdoria have won just one out of their last five league games. However, that win was a comprehensive one. They faced a poor side in the form of Brescia and hammered them 5-1. Fabio Quagliarella got a brace in the game for Sampdoria. After a stunning campaign last time, Quagliarella has scored just six league goals so far. He scored 26 last season in the Serie A.

Sampdoria have scored 22 goals this season in the league, which gives them the ratio of a goal per game. Only three sides in the Serie A have scored fewer this campaign. Quagliarella and the other attackers like Manolo Gabbiadini need to step up in the coming weeks. Sampdoria’s last game ended in a 4-2 loss against Napoli.

Torino vs Sampdoria Last Meetings & Betting Tips

Torino have won two of the last three league games between these two sides. However, Sampdoria won their last meeting. They beat Torino 1-0 in September as Manolo Gabbiadini got the only goal of the game. Three of the last six meetings between these sides have ended in draws.

Neither side is in great form, and a draw seems like the most likely result. Both sides should score in this one and Sampdoria should capitalize on Torino’s weak defence. The total goals should be over 2.5 for this game, and it will be entertaining for the neutral.
