Allahabad High Court hears PIL against release of Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar

A public interest litigation has been filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court seeking to restrain the release of the film Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar.

The Division Bench of Justice Attau Rahman Masoodi and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by social activist Sangeeta Singh.

Satendra Kumar Singh, the counsel for the petitioner, said the petitioner himself is the Vice President of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena. The petition filed by him has raised issues like not using the word Samrat in the title of the film, misrepresenting Prithviraj Chauhan, showing his queen in obscene dress etc.

The petition states that the advertisement of the film is being displayed. It is clear from this advertisement that the film has been made controversial. It has been said that the film seems to have been approved by the Censor Board without even seeing it.

S.B. Pandey, Assistant Solicitor General, prayed for a week’s time to obtain instructions as to whether the film, exhibition of which is sought to be restrained, has been approved by the Censor Board or not, the Court noted.

The Court has fixed the next hearing of the petition on February 21, 2022.
