He announced that the movie had received the green light and was currently in active development. As expected, this development followed a series of decisions made by Chapek during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In fact, during the earnings call, Iger unveiled Disney’s cost-saving restructuring plan. If we are to take his words as true, then it includes cutting 7,000 jobs to save $5.5 billion. In an effort to recoup losses, Disney announced new instalments of popular franchises like “Frozen 3,” “Zootopia 2,” and the next “Toy Story” film.

While fan reactions to “Toy Story 5” question its necessity, the success of the previous films, grossing over $3 billion (according to The Numbers), makes a sequel an easy decision, although Pixar may have another compelling story in store.

On the other hand, Tim Allen shared that Toy Story 5 had been in the works long before its official announcement in February. According to the Buzz Lightyear actor, development began some time ago, with Disney only confirming it recently. He also noted the unusual overlap with “Lightyear,” where Chris Evans takes on the role of the space cadet instead of Allen.

Toy Story 5 Release Date

While Bob Iger announced the Toy Story 5 movie in February, it’s important to note that the release date for the film has not been disclosed. As you might be knowing, animated movies, especially those from Pixar, typically involve a lengthy development and production process.

This is due to the studio’s commitment to achieving photorealistic effects. Notably, rendering a single frame in “Toy Story 3” required an astounding seven hours (as reported by Wired).
