Surprisingly, he’s found an important role there, analyzing hockey games, and it’s made easier by living with fellow hockey players in his dorm, helping him adjust to college life and independent living.

Jake’s days are busy, with classes from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by intense workouts and physical therapy at Journey Forward, a non-profit in Canton, Massachusetts. While the details of his workouts remain private, his dedication to getting better and gaining more independence is clear.

His days are now consumed by intense physical therapy, medical care, and hard labour in order to restore mobility and function. The trip has been indisputably difficult, but Jake’s unbreakable spirit, as well as the support of his family, medical specialists, and the community, has propelled him ahead.

Jake Thibeault Personal Life

Jake Thibeault’s adventure at Babson College kicked off in the summer of 2021 when he checked out the campus and met Coach Rice, hoping to join the hockey team.

During their talk, Jake felt a real connection, especially when he hung out in the locker room with the coach. But things took a dramatic turn less than a week later when Jake ended up in the hospital with two broken vertebrae.

This life-altering injury happened after he scored a goal for his club hockey team, the Boston Bulldogs, and Jake Thibeault hit awkwardly while chasing the puck, resulting in a headfirst crash into the boards that he can’t remember. The spinal cord injuries were major, and the news of paralysis was understandably scary. 

Jake’s been incredibly independent, even driving himself to and from rehab. He’s got some fellow students, Charlie Andriole ’26, Nolan Dion ’26, Brendan Kennedy ’26, and Nolan Woudenberg ’26, living nearby in Park Manor West.
