Everything About MultiVersus Announces Shock Shutdown

Many people questioned MultiVersus’ designation as a beta game and price after Player First Games revealed plans to close down the studio in a few months. As a complimentary game featuring in-game purchases, Multiversus legally joined Open Beta in July 2022. It also included various items from the Founder’s Pack, which cost $40 to $100.

The Season 2 content push that makes Marvin the Martian free was one of many updates the Player First Games team released in the following months. Yet, very little fresh information has appeared recently. But Player First Games and WB are still committed to developing crossover combat.

Developers announce that MultiVersus will end this summer:

The developer of MultiVersus announced today, March 27, that the Open Beta will finish on June 25 of this year. Early in 2024, an unclear date, the game’s latest release with “new content, attributes, modes, and more” will go online.

On April 4, the title will no longer be available in digital marketplaces, according to the FAQ section of the MultiVersus webpage. On the same day, gleaming sales are expected to end.

The learning space (The Lab), local matches, and previously acquired characters/cosmetic items within these modes will still be accessible offline for anyone who downloaded MultiVersus before April 4 after June 25.

MultiVersus’ termination causes confusion:

Predictably, the decision to shut down MultiVersus has surprised a few people. The announcement, according to content provider GamesCage, “feels odd when people actively invested money in the game.” “You’re… a game that players have invested money in for eight months being shut down?” Someone said.

There has also been some confusion due to Player First Games’ publication of two seasons of material for a beta. Nonetheless, it is important to note that the game does make clear on the beginning screen that it is an “Open Beta.” MultiVersus has been performing badly for months, and in February, the number of gamers on Steam fell below 1,000. It might be best to shut down and launch again in 2024.
