Place of Origin 

Jaguar Wright was born in New Jersey. Then she moved to Philadelphia when she turned 12. Because of that, she got introduced to The Roots group as they also are from Philadelphia. She is very connected to her hometown and its community. 

Jaguar Wright: Fame and career 

Jaguar Wright got to meet the hip hop group the Roots in 1998. She went on a tour with them and received a lot of exposure. Then in 2001, she worked as a backup singer for Jay-Z. Also, she appeared in the popular Coca-cola commercial for the brand’s “Nu Soul” campaign. Her first two albums are Denials, Delusions & Decisions and Divorcing Neo 2 Marry Soul released in 2002 and 2005 respectively. In 2007 she released two of her songs in her Myspace profile. 

Then in 2009, she released “Beautiful” and “Surely Shawty”. But these songs did not have an official release. In March 2008 she went on a tour with Bahamadia and Hezekiah. In 2019 she released the song “Lost” on Bandcamp. 

Along with the singing opportunities she also has received acting roles. In 2014 she acted in the TV series Underground Kings. Then she was also part of a short film titled The Corporate Brother: Sign of the Times. 

Issues and grievances

Over the years Jaguar Wright had issues with many people. At first, she had a fall out with The Roots and detached herself from them. Then she had problems with Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Mary J. Blige. Also, she accused her then-boyfriend Common of sexually assaulting her. 

As she is a controversial figure she became the subject of a documentary titled Gone Girl: Surviving Jaguar Wright made by Youtube blogger Tasha K. In this documentary Wright’s ex-boyfriend, her son and her relatives speak about her. They talk about the allegations she forced on them in the documentary. Therefore this was an eye-opener on Wright’s character. 

In 2016 Wright also got arrested because of abducting her child. It seems she and her ex-husband Samuel Odom were co-parenting the child. So when her son was staying with her she tried to kidnap him without the consent of her partner.  The authorities found out about it and arrested her on kidnapping charges. This led to a lot of media speculation.

There are not many details about her personal life. But many are aware that she is a mother of two kids. She lost her oldest son in 2018. Wright claimed that the cause of his death was murder. According to her, he was murdered in a hotel parking lot. Her son’s death was one of the tragic incidents in her life. This affected her mental health as she was not able to accept his death.
