NVIDIA hasrecently introducedits GeForce RTX 20-series SUPER mobile graphics cards, with the heap of new features that are present on the new GPU models. According to a report from ComputerBase, NVIDIA has refreshed few of the RTX 20-series mobile GPUs in addition to the previously announced SUPER models. Now there are a few models/variants of these RTX 20-series GPUs. Firstly, there is a standard RTX mobile GPU variant called the “Max-P” version – this represents the RTX 20-series GPUs that were launched initially in January of 2019 and it includes three SKUs like RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080. Secondly, there is a “Max-Q” revision of these graphics cards, meant to bring maximum efficiency. These SKUs are power-limited, so they are a bit slower compared to the regular “Max-P” version, and they have a Total Graphics Power (TGP) between 65 W and 90 W depending on the model.

Next up we have GeForce RTX SUPER 20-series of GPUs that were launched on April 2nd just a few days ago. These GPUs are special because they bring a heap of new features like more CUDA cores, low-power (1.25 V compared to the old 1.35 V) GDDR6 memory, DynamicBoost, and Optimus support. So what are these new, refresh GPUs? On ComputerBase Forums, XMG (laptop maker) representative has revealed that NVIDIA refreshed some of the older RTX 20-series mobile GPU that were already in use.

TSMC, Taiwan’s flagship manufacturer of silicon, has seen a substantial increase in demand for Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS) packaging technology, according to the report from DigiTimes. CoWoS is a multi-chip packaging technology that gives an option to build silicon like LEGO, allowing for dies to be placed side by side on interposer that is providing high interconnect density and performance. You can see more about CoWoS in detailhere. Some of the examples of CoWoS are NVIDIA’s P100 and V100 dies that integrate logic (computing elements), and memory (in the form of HBM) on a single die.

Recently, TSMC updated its CoWoS technology, where this new second-generation parts could scale far larger than the first-generation implementation – up to 1700 squared millimeters of die space, allowing for some very creative solutions to be implemented. This may be the reason that the demand in Q2 has risen so substantially and that TSMC’s production lines are now running at full capacity, trying to meet the demand for this packaging technology.

Microsoft could release the next major update to Windows 10, aka 2004, in May as the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (build 19041.173). Codenamed “Manganese,” Windows 10 2004 has been released to Windows Insiders (slow ring), who can now either update their current installations or get ISO files for the new operating system. For the rest of us, Microsoft could release the software some time in May. Windows 10 2004 introduces a “restore this PC from the cloud” option, refined Windows Update management system; a more functional Task Manager that can show GPU temperatures; improvements to Cortana, Windows Search, and Network management.

Lian Li updated itsDK-05andDK-04desk-type PC cases as the new DK-05F and DK-04F. The two come with electrochromic glass tops. With applications in office cubicles (privacy glass), automobiles (auto-dimming rear-view mirrors), and passenger aircraft like the Boeing 787, electrochromic glass allows you to adjust transparency and clarity. On Lian Li’s DK-series desk-type cases, these let you adjust the opacity of the glass top, or its “blurriness.” The frame of the glass top can be studded with ARGB strips so the glass top acts like a translucent diffuser. The case’s front-panel now comes with a dedicated compound button to configure the glass.

Another design change with the DK-05F and DK-04F is a new detachable motherboard tray design. The tray now separates from the rest of the inner chassis, such that it only holds the motherboard’s rear I/O shield and expansion slots (you don’t end up pulling out the PSU along with it, like on the original DK-05/04). The rest of the feature-sets of the two are identical to their original counterparts. The DK-05F is designed for dual-system builds, with two independent ATX-size systems inside; while the DK-04F is designed for single-system builds. The company didn’t reveal pricing.

A video presentation by Lian Li follows.

Two unannounced AMD Ryzen chips the Ryzen 7 3700C and Ryzen 3 3250C have recently appeared on Geekbench in a device codenamed “Google Zork”. These two CPUs bare resounding similarities with the Ryzen 7 3700U and Ryzen 3 3250U APUs, sharing the same core configurations and clocks. The main difference between these chips is the 15 W TDP of the C versions.

These chips are likely adapted versions of the Ryzen 7 3700C and Ryzen 3 3250C intended for use in a upcoming Google Chromebook, not the “C” which could possibly stand for Chromebook. The codename “Google Zork” first appeared last year in reference to a reference board with the AMD Picasso chipset, it’s not confirmed but NotebookCheck suggests that “Google Zork” may a 2-in-1 Google Pixelbook.

The StarVR One VR headset was initially announced in 2015, it amazed us with its ultra-wide 210º horizontal FOV and enterprise features. In 2016 Acer signed a joint venture with Starbreeze the company developing the StarVR to bring the headset to market, after a year Acer increased their stake in the venture to 66% as Starbreeze could not meet their capital commitments. Finally in late 2018 it was announced that developers and enterprise would be available to apply for hardware. Since then we haven’t heard anything from the company until recently when a purchase button appeared on the StarVR site.

The purchase page shows availability from several distributors in Japan and Taiwan, with China listed as coming soon. The EU, UK & USA all have open expressions of interest for resellers in the region. Surprisingly no price is listed for the headset but we can assume it will be close to the $3,200 USD the developer version sold for in 2018.

EVGA today announced availability of their GeForce RTX 2080 & 2070 SUPER KO graphics cards. Much like their original RTX 2060 KO graphics card, which came in an attractive price point that undercut NVIDIA’s own $299 MSRP for the graphics card, the new graphics cards also carry a new, lower price point than the company’s (previous) cheapest offerings, the Black series. The EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER KO will be retailing for $499.99 (2560 CUDA cores, 1770 MHz Boost Clock, 8 GB GDDR6 memory @ 14 GHz over a 256-bit bus), while the EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER KO (3072 CUDA cores, 1815 MHz Boost Clock, 8 GB GDDR6 memory @ 15.5 GHz over a 256-bit bus) can be had for $699.99. This is a lower pricing than most competitor’s offerings in this market for a custom-designed RTX 2070 SUPER or RTX 2080 SUPER.

To achieve this pricepoint, some cuts have had to be made. The cards ship without a backplate, and the cooling solution seems to be slightly less dense than the company’s other, more expensive designs based on NVIDIA’s chips. The PCB in these graphics cards is a custom design – and going to the trouble of redesigning what was an originally beefy engineering feat means that some cuts were likely done in this area as well. The new SUPER KO graphics cards also drop the Virtual Link port, featuring only 3x DisplayPort and 1x HDMI as display outputs. EVGA’s Precision X1 overclocking utility is bundled with the graphics cards.

Microsoft has decided to shift its focus away from Windows 10X dual-screen laptop solutions in the near term, according to the report from ZDNet. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has happened recently, Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer Panos Panay internally informed his team that Microsoft will not be focusing its efforts on delivering the Windows 10X based dual-screen laptops this year. However, Microsoft is committed to that idea and will not shift away from it completely, it is just taking a rest for now. This is bad news for everyone that was hoping to get Surface Neo dual-screen laptop that was meant for the Holiday season of 2020. In addition to Surface Neo not shipping this year, Microsoft isn’t enabling any new Windows 10X dual-screen device to ship this year either.

What Microsoft is focusing on, however, is to get Windows 10X firstly on single-screen devices. That means that regular laptops should be getting the Windows 10X treatment sometime this year so vendors can launch products to compete with Chromebook devices, based on Google’s ChromeOS.

Noblechairs, the well-known manufacturer of PC accessories and better known for the quality of their gaming chairs, has announced that they are working in partnership with Bethesda to adapt that publisher’s franchises to branded products. The agreement will see Noblechairs designing products around the Fallout and Doom franchises for release in 2020.

Other game franchises will follow in this adaptation (wondering what they’ll be doing with the steampunk design of Dishonored). It’s currently unknown what special features (if any) these chairs will include, or if it’s simply a matter of aesthetics. Pricing hasn’t yet been shared, but since these will likely be designed around Noblechairs’ existing products, you should take a look at that pricing and then add some leeway for licensing costs.

A leaked Intel internal slide surfaced on Chinese social networks, revealing five new products the company will build on its 10 nm silicon fabrication process. These include the “Alder Lake” heterogenous desktop processor, “Tiger Lake” mobile processor, “Ice Lake” based Xeon Scalable enterprise processors, DG1 discrete GPU, and “Snow Ridge” 5G base-station SoC. Some, if not all of these products, will implement Intel’s new 10 nm+ silicon fabrication node that is expected to go live within 2020.

“Alder Lake” is a desktop processor that implements Intel’s new heterogenous x86 core design that’s making its debut with “Lakefield.” The chip features up to 8 larger “Willow Cove” or “Golden Cove” CPU cores, and up to 8 smaller “Tremont” or “Gracemont” cores. This 8-big/8-small combo lets the chip achieve TDP targets around 80 Watts. Next up is “Tiger Lake,” Intel’s next-generation mobile processor family succeeding “Ice Lake.” This microarchitecture implements “Willow Cove” CPU cores in a homogeneous setup, alongside Xe architecture based integrated graphics. “Ice Lake-SP” is Intel’s next enterprise architecture that places mature “Sunny Cove” CPU cores in extreme core-count dies. Lastly, there’s “Snow Ridge,” an SoC purpose built for 5G base-stations. Image quality notwithstanding, these slides don’t appear particularly new, and it’s likely that COVID-19 has destabilized the roadmap. For instance, “Alder Lake,” and “Ice Lake-SP” are expected to be 10 nm++ chips, a node that doesn’t go live before 2021.

AMD’s 4th generation Ryzen desktop processors are expected to launch around September 2020, sources in the motherboard industry tell DigiTimes. Codenamed “Vermeer,” successor to “Matisse,” these processors will be socket AM4 multi-chip modules of up to two CPU complex dies based on the “Zen 3” microarchitecture, combined with an I/O controller die. The “Zen 3” chiplets are expected to be fabricated on a newer 7 nm-class process by TSMC, either N7P or N7+. The biggest design change with “Zen 3” is the doing away of CCX arrangement of CPU cores, with each chiplet holding a common block of cores sharing a last-level cache. This, along with clock speed headroom gains from the new node are expected to yield generational price-performance increases.

The “Zen 2” based 8-core “Renoir” die is also expected to make its socket AM4 debut within 2020, succeeding the “Picasso” based quad-core Ryzen 3000-series APUs. This is a particularly important product for AMD, as it is expected to compete with Intel’s 10th generation Core i5 6-core/12-thread processors in terms of pricing, while offering more cores (8-core/16-thread) and a faster iGPU. The 4th gen Ryzen socket AM4 processor lineup will launch alongside AMD’s 600-series motherboard chipset, with forwards- and backwards-compatibility (i.e., “Vermeer” and “Renoir” working with older chipsets, and older AM4 processors working on 600-series chipset motherboards). AMD was originally expected to unveil these processors at the 2020 Computex trade-show in June, but Computex itself is rescheduled to late-September.

Polish game studio CD Projekt, behind the smash-hit “The Witcher” game franchise and 2020’s most anticipated game, “Cyberpunk 2077,” turned a handsome profit in 2019. The studio reported 521 million PLN (roughly USD $125 million) in sales for the fiscal year 2019, which the company says is a 44 percent growth over 2018. Its consolidated net profit increased by 60 percent over 2018, to 175 million PLN ($42 million). Interestingly, CD Projekt attributes its growth to sales of “The Witcher 3,” particularly its Nintendo Switch release, and “GWENT” on mobile.
