"Queen of Tears" episode 3: Recap & review

Recap

Nostalgic beginnings and present dilemmas

Episode 3 starts with a look back at the past, showing Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s early days of dating. They visit his hometown, where he shows her the family orchard and his mom’s shop. He treats her to ice cream, and she shares that she’s never had any because her mom wouldn’t let her.

Hyun-woo, thinking she grew up very poor, promises to make sure she gets to experience everything she missed out on. Hae-in is surprised by his promise and tries to tell him the truth, but he’s determined to support her no matter what.

Back in the present, the story picks up from where it left off. Hae-in is stunned, and Hyun-woo quickly looks after her. Eun-sung checks on her, but Hyun-woo takes her away, leaving Eun-sung watching them with a dark look. As they walk home, Hae-in gets hurt, and Hyun-woo carries her to their room.

Revealing hidden truths and intense feelings

When they get home, Hae-in’s brother tells their mom about the injury, and she hurries to see her daughter. The family comes together, and Hae-in’s dad finds out Hyun-woo is a skilled shooter. Hae-in tells them he’s one of the best in the Marines, making her dad see him differently and treat him well.

In “Queen of Tears” episode 3, Hyun-woo checks the area and discovers someone tampered with the barricade, leading a hurt wild boar into the forest. The Chairman decides to look at the security footage himself. Grace Goh feels trapped because she set up the incident. She hands over the tapes, but only the family’s estranged son appears on them, giving her a way out.

3 years into their marriage, Hae-in feels her heart race for Hyun-woo again. She worries it’s because she’s sick.

But the doctor says it’s just a change of heart that happens when someone is close to dying, which shocks Hae-in. She starts to feel more for others, surprising her assistant.

Hyun-woo’s sister and brother-in-law meet with Hae-in to talk her out of a divorce, not knowing Hyun-woo hasn’t told her his plans. They beat around the bush, but never mention the divorce. After Hae-in leaves, the sister texts her about it. When Hyun-woo finds out, he calls his sister, but it’s too late, and he’s in a tough spot.

Meanwhile, we learn more about Eun-sung’s troubling nature. He tries to buy the caretaker’s dog but ends up trying to harm it. Hyun-woo saves the dog and the family. The caretakers recall a similar story about a young orphan boy who resembles Eun-sung, who once hurt a dog and showed no remorse.

Eun-sung seems to be after Hae-in’s attention using his influence, but he might be hiding a dark secret. He invites Hae-in to dinner with Mr. Hermann, but when Hermann doesn’t show, they talk business. Eun-sung plants doubts about her marriage, but Hae-in quickly dismisses them.

Eun-sung brings a tipsy Hae-in home, which really bothers Hyun-woo. He quickly gets rid of Eun-sung, who is visibly upset as he watches the two leave. As Hae-in stumbles around, Hyun-woo tries to grab her phone to erase some messages. Hae-in insists she’s going to do everything she’s missed out on for years since she only has 3 months left. When she tries to use her phone, Hyun-woo snatches it and tosses it aside.

She’s surprised but quickly pulls him close. She’s confused but suddenly does something unexpected that surprises everyone, including Hyun-woo – she kisses him.

Review

The 3rd episode reveals more about Yoon Eun-sung, and it’s not all good. It looks like he might be plotting something bad against Hae-in and the Queens group. He’s trying to make Hyun-woo jealous and make Hae-in question her marriage, which seems more like a plan for revenge than love.

Meanwhile, we’re really liking Hae-in this time! She’s showing feelings other than anger, and it’s great. She gets shy like a young girl when she thinks about Hyun-woo. She’s also kinder to her workers and others around her.

She used to think caring for others was strange, but now she’s starting to show her heart isn’t just about business. She may still care a lot about money and be quick-tempered, but her heart is warming up, maybe because of Hyun-woo’s kindness.
