"The Kidnapping Day" Kdrama Review: Best Currently Running Drama for Me

I was totally hooked by "The Kidnapping Day" (aka "The Day"). It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen. I didn’t want to miss any scene, unlike some other dramas that I often skip. I regret watching the first episode because now I have to wait every week for the next ones~.

This ENA drama kept impressing the viewers with its episode 4 which aired on September 20. It achieved a remarkable feat by doubling its rating from 1.8% to 3.6%. This success made the series outperform even "Destined with You," a show from JTBC, one of Korea’s biggest cable networks. It would have been a huge hit if it was on a bigger or more popular channel. "The Kidnapping Day" is indeed heartwarming. It has suspense, mystery, and a touching story of a kidnapper and his kidnapped, who become like father and daughter. The show also has an amazing plot, cast, direction, and acting!

  • IMDb: 9.2/10
  • Episodes: 12

Main cast

  • Yoon Kye-Sang as Kim Myeong-Jun
  • Yu-Na as Choi Ro-Hee
  • Park Sung-Hoon as Park Sang-Yoon
  • Kim Shin-Rok as Seo Hye-Eu

What is The Kidnapping Day about?

Dumb and genius moments never fail to make me laugh :))
Yoon Kye-Sang plays Kim Myeong-Jun, a poor man who needs money for his daughter’s surgery. His ex-wife convinces him to kidnap a rich girl, Choi Ro-Hee, who is 11 years old. Kim Myeong-Jun agrees to do it. Still, he is so scared that he can hardly listen to his ex-wife who is telling him what to do, and he freaks out when he hears a police car nearby. He decides to give up on their plan.

But when he drives his car, he sees a little girl collapse on the road in front of him. He stops just in time to avoid hitting her. She is CHOI RO-HEE, the girl he is supposed to kidnap. Kim Myeong-Jun takes her to his home. She wakes up with no memory of who she is. He lies to her and says she is his daughter Kim Hee-ae.

She is a smart girl. He wants to give her back to her parents, but they don’t answer his calls. It turns out that they're murdered. To make matters worse, Choi Ro-Hee finds out that Kim Myeong-Jun isn't her real father and he lied to her.

Review

Superb acting

"The Day" shows Yoon Kye-Sang's best acting ever. He plays his role perfectly. This drama is also one of the many that showcase the amazing skills of child actors.

Incredible interaction between the dumb and genius duo

The bond between the kidnapper/fake father and the girl is strong. Ro-hee is a great character; she is smart and sassy in a way that suits her age. I also like how Yoon Kye-sang makes his character dumb, likable, and warm-hearted and how hilarious their scenes are. I enjoy every moment they appear on the screen~
Myeong-Jun and Ro-Hee are beginning to resemble each other :))
Ro-Hee, you're speaking my truth and dragging me! :))) The dark humor in this thriller is perfect!

She's so cute when she smiles~
Detective Park: "They're moving together as if they're a team. It feels like the kid is the one taking the lead." Can't agree more 🤣
Ro-Hee just said what we are all thinking 🤣

He promised to protect her and he will keep his word even if it costs him his life 😭
I want to smile, not cry. I need tears of joy, no matter what. Just tears of joy. Please.

A smart kid in trouble

The smart kid Ro-Hee is wanted by different groups and her only relative tries to kill her for money. I wish the kid was just naturally smart and not a result of the experiment.

They should stop using a child for their research. I don’t mind people being smart, but at what price? The world would become a dump of technology sooner, and being smart doesn’t mean being kind. Only a few smart people are actually good.
