"Behind Your Touch" Review: A Hilarious and Ridiculous Kdrama to Watch When You're Depressed

Are you looking for a K-drama that will make you laugh out loud and cry a little? Then I do suggest seeing "Behind Your Touch:", a Netflix original series recently released.

Starring Han Ji-min and Lee Min-ki (the heaven pairing for me~), this show is a comic fantasy that revolves around a vet who can see the memories of animals and people by touching their behinds, and a detective who needs her help to solve cases.

The plot

How I admire the write can come up with a line that is both hilarious and meaningful 🤣

The story begins with Bong Ye-bun (Han Ji-min), a young girl who loses her mother in a tragic accident and moves to the countryside with her aunt and grandfather, who are both vets. She grew up to become a vet herself. One night, while examining a pregnant cow, she gets hit by a mysterious light from a meteor shower and falls into a coma. When she wakes up three days later, she discovers that she has gained the ability to see the memories of animals and people by touching their behinds.🤣

Meanwhile, Moon Jang-yeol (Lee Min-ki) is a hotshot detective who gets transferred from Seoul to the small town of Mujin after getting suspended for his reckless behavior. He is determined to go back to his old job as soon as possible. But he finds himself stuck in a place where the most violent crimes involve runaway cows and stolen crops. He also meets Ye-bun, who annoys him with her quirky personality and strange ability.

As fate would have it, Ye-bun and Jang-yeol end up working together to solve various cases involving animals and humans. Also, I’m quite curious to see how the "romance" will develop between those two! 🤣🤣 They face challenges from their pasts, their families, and their enemies as well.

The characters

They're the cutest characters here for me~~

"Behind Your Touch" has a colorful cast of characters who add humor and warmth to the show.

1. Ye-bun (I prefer calling her Ms. Bong :))

The female lead is a kind-hearted, cheerful, and clumsy vet who loves animals and cares for her family. She is also brave and loyal, willing to help others. She has a crush on Sun-woo, but she often embarrasses herself in front of him.

2. Jang-yeol

The things this guy has to deal with are so unpredictably funny.🤣 I love the mindless comedy style of this show.🤣 This detective can’t get a single serious case no matter how hard he tries🤣

The male lead is cold, arrogant, and stubborn. But he also has a soft side that he rarely shows. While he is good at his job, he has a dark past that haunts him. He is annoyed by Ye-bun at first but gradually falls for her charm and sincerity (yea, the old cliché but I hope they make it more interesting and engaging).

3. Jung Hyun-ok

Ye-bun’s aunt is loud, bossy, and eccentric, but she loves Ye-bun like her own daughter. She often forces Ye-bun to treat farm animals and makes her do odd jobs around the clinic. She also has a crush on the police chief.

4. Won Jong-mook

The police chief is Jang-yeol’s boss. He is friendly, easy-going, and optimistic. But on the other hand, he has a serious side when it comes to his work. Hyun-ok is his first love.

One of the highlights of the show is the parody of the popular K-drama "Twenty-Five Twenty-One." Hyun-ok and Jong-mook reenact the scenes from the drama with hilarious results. They wear fencing outfits and exchange cheesy lines. I like how they keep Kim Tae Ri’s bangs on the aunt everywhere and even use "Twenty-Five Twenty-One"'s OSTs.🤣

5. Bae Ok-hui

Ye-bun’s best friend runs a convenience store. She is sassy, outspoken, and fearless. Also, she has a soft spot for Ye-bun. She often gets into trouble with her brother Deok-hee, who is a detective.

6. Bae Deok-hee

Ok-hui’s younger brother is Jang-yeol’s colleague. Where he is naive, timid, and clumsy, he tries his best to be a good cop. He hates his sister for being crazy and violent. At the same time, he cares for her deep down

7. Kim Sun-Woo

A mysterious man appears in Mujin. I have seen too many dramas already. Based on the plot, these are some possible scenarios:

  • Sun-woo is a serial killer.
  • He is just a mysterious person but not the actual killer.
  • The director made him innocent and kind… but then suddenly he turns out to be the main villain (like in the "Mouse" Korean show).

"Behind Your Touch" review: My thoughts

1. Upsides

This refreshing and entertaining K-drama from Netflix combines comedy, romance, mystery, and fantasy in one package. It does not take itself too seriously and delivers hilarious scenes that make me laugh until my stomach hurts. 🤣 I haven't laughed like this since "Welcome to Waikiki."

Besides, the show has heartwarming moments that will make me smile and cry at the same time.

This scene got me crying :(

The chemistry between Han Ji-min and Lee Min-ki is adorable. They have great comedic timing and banter that may keep you hooked on their relationship.

Plus, the supporting characters are fun. They add more flavor and depth to the show with their own stories and personalities. They also have their own relationships and interactions that are likely to make you curious about them.

The plot is fast-paced and engaging, with each episode having its twist to reveal. Moreover, the show balances the comedy and the drama well, without being too heavy or too light. It has a good mix of fantasy and reality as well, without being too unrealistic or too boring.

2. It isn't perfect, though

It has some flaws and weaknesses that might bother some viewers. For example, they don't feel okay without using 40-above actors as school children, the whole "touch-things," and the male lead body-slamming the female lead. Some of the plot points are also predictable and cliched, such as Jang-yeol’s tragic backstory.

To enjoy the show, just tell yourself that it's meant to be a fun and light-hearted watch. It isn't meant to be a serious and realistic drama that will make you think a lot.

Overall, "Behind Your Touch" has a relatively creative premise, a charming and talented cast, a funny and touching script, and a catchy soundtrack. It is a show that will make you forget your worries and troubles for a while and just enjoy the ride.
