Shepherd Bushiri speaks about his philanthropy and politics

Malawian born, South African based preacher, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has said his relentless charity works is apolitical. He made this statement while visiting to the two childcare and orphanage centers. He interacted with children’s and donated K5 million to each centre.

“Recently, I was in Nicaragua, Central America, where we donated money and food items to thousands living in poverty. A month ago, I was in Nigeria, where we visited a prison and made a donation of items amounting to K22 million. So does it mean I also want to be doing politics in Nicaragua and Nigeria?” Bushiri said.

On the donations to the two centers, Bushiri said children are the pillar of not just his ministry but his personal life.

“Every child is special to me—just as my biological children. However, these ones suffer rejection sometimes because they feel they do not have parents to look up to. Some of us come in to fill that gap, to show them fatherly love so that they grow up with the love that every child needs,” Bushiri said.

SOS and Tilinanu directors Paul Nyirongo and Gift Mkandawire hailed Bushiri, saying his gesture should serve as a point of national reflection in childcare matters in the country.

On his part, Mkandawire—who is running Tilinanu, which her departed mother started in 2005—appealed to Bushiri to soldier on, arguing his gesture symbolizes God’s love for humanity.

SOS Villages, since its establishment in 1997, keeps an average of 130 children per year while Tilinanu keeps at least 35 orphaned girls.
