Nehru..who don’t know about him. Congress portrait him as a great freedom fighter. He was the first prime minister of India. He became prime minister even if he got less vote against Sardar Vallabhai Patel. But, Gandhi forced the committee to appoint Nehru as a Prime Minister. Still, no one knows, what Nehru knew secrets about Gandhi. Due to which Gandhi forced committee members to appoint Nehru as a PM. But, this decision turns disaster for India and India still hurts and regrets. Here are top 5 blunder’s of Nehru that India still Regrets:
1. Jammu Kashmir Problem:
India is still facing the problem of Jammu Kashmir. Thanks to the Nehru. Pakistan has occupied some part of Kashmir we called POK(Pakistan Occupied Kashmir).Nehru kept Sardar Patel away from the Kashmir issue. He appointed N Gopalaswamy Iyengar without prior knowledge of how to handle this serious issue. Because Nehru appointed the minister who obeyed him. He saw Sardar as a competitor.Jinnah constantly interfered in Kashmir issue. Mountbatten advised Nehru to go UN for Kashmir issue. Sardar was against this move. He thought that Kashmir was an integral part of Indian and any foreign country or organization like UN should not interfere.Sardar Patel even met Jammu Kashmir’s Maharaja and took the sign of him that Kashmir issue may not be referred to UN.But, Nehru ignored the concern of Sardar Patel and referred this issue to the UN. He even wanted to make Sheikh Abdullah Prime Minister of Jammu Kashmir, the one who constantly was against the Maharaja.And since then the Kashmir issue has not yet been resolved. A number of problems cropped up including mass killing and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, terrorism, unrest, and the list goes on.
2.Gave Permanent UN seat to China:
Another bad decision of Nehru, India still facing the problem.United Nation Security Council was established in 1947 right after World War 2. The UN began with four members: USA, Britain, Russia and France.Around 1955, USA offered the possibility of India getting a seat in the UN Security Council.But, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru refused the offer for permanent membership in the UN and he said that he would not subscribe to the United Nations without China. India gave her full support to China for Permanent Membership in the United Nations Security Council.In an interview, even Congress Party’s Shashi Tharoor admitted “Jawaharlal Nehru declined the United States offer to India to take the Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council around 1953 and suggested that it be given to China.”
Now, China is a friend of Pakistan. So, we have two enemies at both the end.
3. 1962 War Against China: Around 1950, China claimed some part of Indian territory as theirs. In 1955, China even published a map showing Aksai Chin of India, as their territory. Even then, Nehru kept quiet.How could Prime Minister of a country don’t react ?? Ministers of his government asked him to resolve this issue but he ignored their demands. He firmly though China is our friend. Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai!!But, China showed their real face when they attacked Indian territory in 1962. China attacked northeastern territories, especially Arunachal Pradesh. Until then Jawaharlal Nehru and his defense minister V.K. Krishna Menon were under the false notion that China would not take any action.Also, there was no proper preparation for this war-like situation.Eventually, India lost the war and China acquired some part of the Indian territory.
4.Used his power to pass article 370:
Initially, article 370 was not even in the scene and instead article 306-A was drafted. Nehru sent Sheikh to Dr. B.R Ambedkar to draft an appropriate constitution for the Jammu Kashmir state.
But, Dr. Ambedkar firmly rejected it saying:
“Mr. Abdullah, you want India should defend Kashmir, India should develop Kashmir and Kashmiris should have equal right as citizens of India, but you don’t want India and any citizen of India to have any rights in Kashmir. I am the Law Minister of India. I cannot betray the interest of my country”.
Dr. Ambedkar firmly refused to draft the article 370. Due to this, Nehru asked Gopalaswami Ayyangar to draft the article. After preparing article 370, Nehru Nehru used his absolute majority in parliament to pass the article. This article was passed only to please Sheikh Abdullah. This was the biggest mistake done by Nehru. For his personal gain, he used a majority in parliament to pass this article.
5. Creator of India’s Economic Troubles :
Rising inflation, shrinking exports, constrained agricultural growth was a gift to India by Nehru’s policies in his term.There were limits to the amount of land one could own. The government was invested with the power to acquire any private, industrial and agricultural land it deemed fit. Ultimately, this led to the destruction of India’s agricultural sector. No wonder majority of farmers’ suicides over the past several years are rooted to Nehru’s economic policy! His Avadi Resolution, that was passed, was communist in tone and action. The government exercised exclusive control over many other industry segments. The Indian economy only plummeted further.
Congress portrait Nehru as the first leader of liberal India.He was a leader without any knowledge of how to lead the country in any front like military, economy, etc. He was too British than Indian. Nehru’s many blunders, many decisions harmed the nation.These should be highlighted so that people should about what actually so-called Chacha Nehru was. Thanks to his dynasty in power in Indian politics, right from Independence to a considerable period of time, his harmful decisions and blunders were kept in dark. But times are changing. His blunders are gradually getting exposed. It’s been 60 years and people should know about what Nehru and Congress did to this country.
