Home Alone is one of our family’s must-watch Christmas movies.  You wouldn’t think a movie about child endangerment/negligence would become a holiday classic, but there you go.  Hehe.  But as a kid I totally identified with Kevin and people not respecting his pizza topping choices (to be totally honest, I still just like my pizza plain with cheese, so I still kinda identify with Kevin.) And as an adult, I totally sympathize with Mrs. McCallister now.  Like why can no one get with the program?!?  We’re trying to have family fun here, people!  So, as you probably guessed from the title, that movie inspired this Christmas mix.  Sweet and salty, with a free printable you can get here for a fun little gift.  Or just keep it for yourself and eat it while you watch Home Alone.  All totally good in my book.  To keep the celebration going, I also purchased a “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal” sweatshirt this year.  Because can you say you’re a real fan of the movie if you don’t have the sweatshirt? That’s my justification anyway for both this and my Hocus Pocus sweatshirt :).

Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal Cracker Mix How-to  

First up, grab a really big bowl.  I always use this Thatsa bowl that’s crazy big.  But — as I’ve found out the hard way — when you need a REALLY big bowl, nothing but a REALLY big bowl will do, you know?  So pour in your animal crackers, Bugles, pretzels along with your M & M’s and Rolos.  Melt your almond bark in the microwave until smooth (mine took about 2 minutes).

Pour the almond bark over everything and mix until it’s all coated.

Now I like to get really literal with my holiday desserts — if it’s not sparkling with red and green sugars, how can we be really sure people will understand it’s a Christmas dish and not just an everyday snack mix?  That’s not something I’m going to leave to chance,  so I got really liberal with the sprinkles.

Spread it out on wax paper to cool and then break it up in chunks and serve in an airtight container.
