A Hidden Ritual – “Khatna”

What is Khatna? or we can say FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) or Female Genital Cutting. It’s really a harassment for the women. This kind of ritual is basically found in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East within the communities. Why this Khatna?? I ask again why?? Through the research of mine, I have found that the ritual is deeply rooted in gender inequality, controlling the freedom of women sexuality. Khatna is cutting off the clitoral glands of women i.e at home without the help of a doctor. They used to cut the clitoral glands of women with the help of a blade, knife scissors etc without providing anesthesia. This causes pain and also get infected in the genital parts.

This is not only practiced in Africa, but it is also practiced in India by the Bohra community in Mumbai. The girl at the age of 6 years started to practice the ritual known as ‘Khatna’. This is one kind of child abuse. There is no openness about it. The people who do this is just taking the freedom of one girl. This is not called as a ritual. This is called as destroying one girl’s life. I today ask those people who practice this kind of rituals that what do you get after performing all this kind of practices..??? But I can say what the girls get after performing this kind of practices. This is one kind of abuse to the girls, and this abuse leaves girls physically, psychologically, sexually and also socially damaged. No one is getting married after performing this kind of mutilation.

I just ask one question to the Bohra community peoples that, does Islam says you to do this or the Allah gets happy after performing this kind of rituals..??

According to the United Nations, the practicing of FGM is totally banned in the world because it is a human right violation but there is no ban in India. But I support the fight against FGM.

TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD A NATION WHERE THERE IS ZERO TOLERANCE OF FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION.
