Boxing: Canelo vs. Smith

Canelo vs. Smith

Tonight there will be a world championship showdown in the super middleweight division: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will meet WBA super Champion Callum Smith (Main Event Close To 4:30 AM, Sunday)!  The official “Weigh-In” took place yesterday.

Callum Smith almost 20 centimeters taller - “Canelo” still a favorite!

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 Ko’s) was looking for his next opponent for a good year.  After the now 30-year-old Mexican spectacularly knocked out Sergey Kovalev in November 2019 and thus secured the WBO light heavyweight belt, among others  Billy Joe Saunders or Caleb Plant acted as possible opponents.

Now Canelo, who is still in possession of the "regular" WBA super middleweight belt, meets the previously undefeated WBA super champion Callum Smith (27-0-0, 19 knockouts).  The Briton of the same age towers over his Mexican rival by 18 centimeters!

In terms of weight, Canelo and Smith are on par: Both protagonists weighed exactly 76.20 kilograms yesterday.  Among the bookmakers, Canelo Alvarez, who is also considered a favorite by the trade press, is still ahead of the game.

For the Golovkin conqueror, it is also the first competition without his previous employer "Golden Boy Promotions".  In cooperation with Matchroom Boss Eddie Hearn, the event will be broadcast live to several countries in the Alamodome in San Antonio (Texas, USA).
