My Current Beliefs: Religion and Spirituality

So this post is inspired by my morning.., from the title of this post, and the current day being Sunday, maybe you can guess what I did. I went to Church.

My cousin who’s staying with us used to go to church often and has since wanted to go again and whatnot, so we looked at a few churches and found one nearby and went this morning.

I went with her as company and support, but my Beliefs aren’t even close to aligned with Christianity… or really any religion for that matter.

My mom told me that I went to church when I was little for a bit with an older student at school that I was friends with. I don’t remember this at all, but she told me I was very curious about God and why we didn’t go to church like some of the other kids and their families. I didn’t go for long obviously, or I’d probably still be attending now. My mom also mentioned that I went to another one once too. Again, I don’t remember either of these churches or attending them.

About four years ago I think, I volunteered as a camp counsellor at Salvation Army over the summer and then attended church every Sunday from September till the end of October maybe? I attended because my (then) boyfriend went and I thought I’d try it out. But it was hard for me because I didn’t believe in anything that was being said. He told me to find the lesson in the sermons and take things with a grain of salt and not so literally, but it didn’t work for me.

I feel out of place at church and super on edge. I feel like I’m lying to myself and everyone around me as I don’t believe in the word of god or anything we’re talking about and singing about. I just feel….wrong.

Today reinstated my personal beliefs, and kind of pushed me a bit into wanting to practice them more. But it’s not a religion, it’s spirituality. I believe I’m eclectic, picking beliefs and practices from many belief systems.

My background is Mi’kmaq and Metis (Native/Aboriginal..whatever you want to call it) and from that, I take smudging and incorporate that into my practice.

I also believe in some Buddhism beliefs. From that I take the meditation and chakras and incorporate that into my life as much as I can. I also want to start doing yoga too…. I think that’s part of Buddhism, but I may be completely wrong.

Lastly, I am more and more getting into Wicca. If you don’t know what that is, it’s like Paganism, Witchcraft.

Essentially it’s witches and practicing magick. With Wicca, I practice with crystals only right now but I want to start candle magick, herbology, and spellwork too.

I believe in the Universe as a higher power if anything, and Mother Nature. Valuing nature and that connection is closely linked to Wiccan and Aboriginal beliefs, and it’s something I want to work on.

I don’t have a belief system of creation at the moment… with Christianity, they believe in God, Aboriginal beliefs is the Creator and Turtle Islan

I have no idea how we were created. Quite possibly we are all here on accident, not created with a purpose in mind or made from anything except stardust. I mean, it’s crazy to think that anything created us, but crazy to think nothing did, too… it’s a complete mystery.

So I believe we really are just here from some chemical reaction, the big bang or whatever perhaps. And where we go after? My beliefs on that don’t fully align with any belief system either. I don’t believe in a heaven or hell, but I do believe in a mix of reincarnation, and the transfer of Energy. I don’t think everyone is reincarnated, but I do believe some people are.

And with the energy, when we die I believe our spirit, if we are not reincarnated, is turned to energy and dispersed into the universe. And so with that, I want to strive for the energy from my lifetime to be good so good energy carries on through after I’m gone. Sure, energy runs out, but I’m hoping that it’ll do some good for someone or something.

I think it’s important to have a belief system, but I also don’t think it’s a huge deal if you don’t. I’m still all over the place with figuring out mine and I’m not super secure in what I do have right now… I’m still figuring it all out but this is what currently feels right for me.

Church this morning just sort of reinstated that and I thought I’d blog to get it all out.

Thank you all for listening!
