Adventures In Minimalism… Ish

I say “ish” because what I’m doing is in no way close to other Minimalists, but it’s different for everyone and that’s what I’m trying to tell myself.

A few months ago I was on Netflix with nothing to watch. I was scrolling through and decided I was in the Mood for a Documentary. That was when I came across Minimalism: a Documentary About the Important Things (click for a preview!)

The documentary follows Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus as they tell their story about changing their lifestyles to be more minimal.

Their blog is here by the way! They have podcasts and books on there! Personally, I’m on the hunt for a copy of their book Minimalism: Live a Meaningful Life.

Seeing these people live so happily with so little belongings… it sparked something in me. I want that…

I’m not unhappy, but I’m not particularly happy either. In the documentary, they talk about society today being greedy.. how we always want the biggest and best things money can buy.

But why give into the advertisements, the celebrities, all of it.

Do you really want what you’ve had your eye on lately? Or do you want it because you’re told you should?

We spend so much time and money collecting things we think will bring value to our lives. And we think this more if the value on the price tag is higher.

That’s just how we’ve been conditioned to think… but who said we have to continue with it?

Minimalism isn’t for everyone… but it’s different for everyone.

You don’t need to go from a wardrobe full of clothes to 30 items. You don’t need to get rid of all your furniture and have empty rooms with a single table and chair.

Minimalism can be what you make it.

It’s all about keeping the things that bring your life meaning, and getting rid of the clutter of things that don’t.

I want to find more meaning in my life… because my mood lately hasn’t been the best. A cluttered life makes for a cluttered mind, and I’m starting to clear out some of that clutter. Slowly.

I started today, and I’ll be posting the next few days about what minimalism means to me and what I’m clearing out.

The less you own, the less that owns you.

I hope you enjoy this mini series of blog posts!

Stay Strong,

Xx
