C.J. Stroud sets rookie record in Texans’ wild win over Bucs

C.J. Stroud, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, set a rookie record by throwing for 470 yards in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He sealed the victory with a 15-Yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell in the final six seconds, resulting in a thrilling 39-37 win for the Texans. Stroud orchestrated a 75-yard drive in just 40 seconds after Baker Mayfield of the Buccaneers had given his team the lead with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cade Otton. Stroud connected with Dell for a 26-yard completion before throwing his fifth touchdown pass of the day. This performance surpassed the previous rookie record of 453 passing yards set by Marc Bulger in 2002.

Stroud completed 30 of his 42 passes, with Noah Brown being his top target, catching six passes for 157 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown. Dalton Schultz also had a strong game, making 10 catches for 130 yards. Dell contributed six receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans took a 33-30 lead when backup running back Dare Ogunbowale kicked a tiebreaking 29-yard field goal with 8:45 remaining. Ogunbowale replaced Ka’imi Fairbairn, who suffered a quad injury and was ruled out at halftime.

On the Buccaneers’ side, Mayfield completed 21 of his 30 passes for 265 yards. Rachaad White rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Mike Evans had 87 receiving yards on four receptions before leaving the game with an injury. Despite their efforts, the Buccaneers suffered their fourth consecutive loss.

Tampa Bay dominated the first half of the game, scoring on their first three possessions to build a 10-point lead. Chase McLaughlin kicked a 35-yard field goal early in the game, taking advantage of a fumble by Schultz. Stroud responded by throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins for the Texans’ first score. The Buccaneers then embarked on a 75-yard drive that lasted nearly seven minutes, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield to Otton. This gave the Buccaneers a 10-7 lead with 2:13 remaining in the first half. White’s 1-yard touchdown run extended the Buccaneers’ lead to 17-7, but Fairbairn’s 50-yard field goal reduced the deficit to 17-10 at halftime.

In conclusion, C.J. Stroud’s record-breaking performance propelled the Houston Texans to a thrilling victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite the Buccaneers’ early dominance, the Texans rallied back and secured the win with Stroud’s late-game heroics.
