Pramac’s Martin smashes lap record to grab pole at Thailand Grand Prix

Jorge Martin of Pramac Racing, a title-challenger, achieved his third pole position of the season at the Thailand Grand Prix on October 28. He set a lap record during qualifying, with Luca Marini from VR46 Racing and Aleix Espargaro from Aprilia also securing spots on the front row.

Francesco Bagnaia, the championship leader and reigning world champion, will start in sixth place on Sunday. He is currently 27 points ahead of Martin in the standings. Bagnaia will be behind his Italian compatriot Marco Bezzecchi from VR46 Racing and Brad Binder from KTM.

After his impressive performance, including a record lap time of 1 minute 29.287 seconds, the 25-year-old Martin expressed his confidence. He stated, “I just look about myself. I am strong, and this is the most important thing.” He did not anticipate achieving a time of 29.2 seconds and believes he is well-prepared for both the races on Sunday.

Despite leading in the final qualifying minutes, last year’s poleman Bezzecchi was unable to replicate his success at the Chang International Circuit. He will start in fourth place.

In the Q1 session, the Marquez brothers, Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez, took the top positions. Alex Marquez from Gresini Racing finished ahead of the six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, who holds the record for the most wins at Buriram.

During the final session, Alex Marquez secured seventh place, while Marc Marquez finished in eighth.

Maverick Vinales from Aprilia, along with French riders Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco, as well as Augusto Fernandez, occupied the remaining positions.

Vinales and Quartararo displayed promising pace but were only able to secure ninth and tenth places, respectively.
