Foxconn faces tax audit, land use probe – Chinese state media

Chinese state media reported on Sunday that Foxconn Technology Group, Apple Inc’s largest supplier of iPhones, has undergone tax audits at some of its key subsidiaries due to suspected violations of laws and regulations. The nationalist tabloid, the Global Times, revealed that China’s natural resources department also conducted on-site Investigations on Foxconn’s land use in Henan, Hubei provinces, and other locations. The report did not provide further details about the investigations or their timing. Foxconn has not yet responded to requests for comment outside of regular business hours.

According to Zhang Wensheng, deputy dean of the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, the tax audits and land use investigations conducted by the relevant departments are a normal procedure for any enterprise suspected of violating laws and regulations. Zhang emphasized that Foxconn’s subsidiaries should actively cooperate with the audits and investigations. If any violations are found, they should acknowledge their mistakes, accept penalties, and take immediate steps to rectify the situation.
