Kelly Associate Confesses to Burning a Car Belonging to One of Singer’s Accusers

Michael Williams, an associate of R. Kelly, arrived at a plea deal with the prosecutors after Kelly Associate Confesses to setting fire to a vehicle that belonged to his ex-girlfriend’s family. According to News 6, the arson happened outside of Azriel Clary’s home in Florida in June 2020.

Michael Williams, the defendant, faces a minimum sentence of five years in jail. When the Surviving R. Kelly documentary was released in 2019, Clary was one of the two girlfriends cohabitating with the disgraced singer. Her parents, who were included in the documentary, have pleaded with her to leave the singer and return home.

Before the arson attack, the 23-year-old had accused the singer of sexual and physical assault and had even agreed to testify against him. Williams is accused of carrying out the act to harass Clary.

Kelly is currently in jail on charges of child sexual abuse, abduction, and forced labor, among others. If convicted, he could spend the remainder of his life in prison. Williams, who allegedly knew the singer through a relative, was charged with arson after the investigators learned that he had searched for Clary’s address several times on Google before the incident.

Evidence Traps Williams

The US Department of Homeland Security also obtained cell phone data from Williams’ phone in Clary’s neighborhood at the time of the arson. According to the documents, he also drove back to his hometown of Valdosta, Georgia, after the crash. According to News 6, cameras at Florida’s Turnpike toll plazas captured images of an SUV with no license plates connected to him.

Williams had also previously typed in the search “can you drive in Florida without a tag,” according to details obtained from his Google account.

He was also said to have watched Clary’s videos on YouTube. Following the arson, officials alleged the account linked to him was used to look up details on “witness intimidation” and open a website called “How Do Fertilizer Bombs Work?”

On Monday, William testified that he had driven to Kissimmee and knowingly set a car on fire during the court proceedings.

“I drove from my house to Kissimmee, Florida, and intentionally set a car on fire in someone’s driveway,” he admitted.

According to reports, people inside the house saw him flee the scene after torching an SUV rented by Clary’s aunt. After Williams agreed to the plea bargain, federal prosecutors dropped a charge of witness tampering against him.

According to defense lawyer Todd Spodek, the plea arrangement is reasonable in that the allegation of witness tampering as it pertains to R. Kelly will be dismissed at sentencing.

Bold approaches towards such acts are slowly contributing to a reduction in them. Intimidation and harassment for the longest time have contributed to insecurity in our communities. More so, it is unfortunate when influential beings are the main perpetrators.
