Biden Considering Obama’s National Security Advisor Donilon for CIA

US President Joe Biden is considering Tom Donilon, a veteran National Security Advisor and diplomat under the Obama administration, as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). On Wednesday, Biden said that he was familiar with the situation the US is in right now.

In the upcoming Biden administration, the position of the CIA head could be one of the most challenging after four years of the incumbent administration, in which Trump repeatedly accused the agency of being part of the ‘deep state’ and undermining his presidency.

Several international and local media outlets confirmed the news of Donilon’s consideration for National Security advisor. Meanwhile, Joe Biden, who is expected to take office on January 20, is also considering Michael Morell, the former acting director and deputy director of the intelligence agency, who served twice under the previous administration.

Biden, being one of Obama’s close national security aides would have worked very closely with these two men, and experts suggest that it would make a good team. Furthermore, he has selected several other former members of Obama administrations, including Antony Blinken and Avril Haines, who are nominations for secretary of state and director of national of intelligence.

Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly refused to concede to his rival’s victory in the presidential election and continued with his unsubstantiated allegations of widespread voter fraud and irregularities. However, his legal team has faced blowbacks from the courts, as many states have started certifying the results.

Moreover, the US is also in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic and the vaccine is still in the development stages. Health experts are expecting the vaccine somewhere in the middle of the next month. After Trump’s go-ahead to begin the transition, the GSA accepted Biden as the president-elect. He will now attend the top national security briefing and is also expected to meet the White House coronavirus taskforce.
