Milind Soman, model turned actor, and now a famous fitness enthusiast and influencer in India has recently been charged by the police for sharing his nude picture on Social Media. The 55-year-old sprinter recently shared a picture on his Instagram page where he was running naked on the beach of Goa, and the picture was captioned “Happy Birthday to Me”.
A political party ‘Goa Suraksha Manch’ was swift in making a complaint against Soman for public obscenity and cited that he is tainting Goa’s image. The actor model turned 55 on November 4, 2020, and was spending his time in Goa with his wife. He posted the picture on his birthday, which caused a spark on social media where people posted numerous comments, some for appreciation and others to express offense.

‘Pankaj Kumar Singh’, Superintendent of Police, stated to media that “Soman has been booked under IPC section 294 (obscene act in a public place) and section 67 of the Information and Technology Act after the complaint by Goa Suraksha Manch.”

Milind Soman, who forayed into modeling in the 1990s, has done quality work in the Indian film Industry. In recent years, he has become a fitness symbol for the country and around the world. His wife ‘Ankita Konwar’, who clicked the picture of him running naked on Goa beach, said to Bombay Times Media in support of the actor. She said that “it sends out a very positive message on body positivity and being free and happy with who you are.”
Interestingly, it is not the first time that the actor has been caught up in a controversy. Milind Sonam faced a similar action 25 years back when he posed nude with a co-actor for a brand’s print advertisement. The ad garnered immense negative response when the duo posed with nothing but a python wrapped around their bodies.

However, the president of Goa Suraksha March, ‘Sameer Khutwalker’, expressed satisfaction that the actor had been charged by the Police Authorities. The president also blamed him for using Goa for cheap publicity and acting foolishly on a Public beach. “When these things become public, people will imagine that ‘anything is possible in Goa,” he added. “When will all this stop?”
The charge of obscenity on Milind Soman comes just days after another Indian Actor-model Poonam Pandey and her husband were arrested in Goa for trespassing Government property and shooting an objectionable video at a dam in Canacona town, in South Goa. The actress, who is famous for her nude portrayal on social media and other online platforms, was detained along with her husband while they were leaving Goa on Thursday afternoon after the opposition parties demanded action against her following the obscene video shot in Goa. After questioning, they were both arrested in the case. 2 police officials said to have provided them protection were also suspending following the controversy.
After their arrest, people converged on social media to highlight the case in comparison with Soman’s picture, even stating that “I guess we are kinder to our nude men than to our nude women.”
