Breonna Taylor: Louisville Police Shooting Suspect Held On $1m Bail

Larynzo Johnson, who is accused of killing two policemen in Kentucky, Louisville, has been ordered to keep in prison on one-million-dollar bail on Friday during the racial justice protests. Johnson was arrested by authorities hours after it was announced that no murder charges would be brought after the death of Breonna Taylor during the local police raid.

The decision prompted mass protests in the area, and the city is under the nighttime curfew to quell the unrest and some looting cases. Meanwhile, Taylor’s family has demanded that the transcript of the Grand Jury trial should be made public.

On Wednesday, the grand jury had returned charges of wanton endangerment against one former police officer. But the decision not to lay murder charges for the killing of the Breonna Taylor at her apartment triggered thousands of angry protesters to take to streets.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, local media reported that over 127 people were arrested. Moreover, the next day the Louisville police arrested at least 27 more demonstrators, including a black lawmaker from the Kentucky legislature.

Benjamin Crump, the lawyer of the late Taylor’s family on Friday, led the chants to release the transcripts and accused Daniel Cameron, the attorney general of Kentucky, of failing to mount a strong case to secure murder charges from the grand jury against three police officers who fired three bullets at Taylor’s home on March 13.

During a drug raid, police entered her flat, but nothing was found. Crump asked, “What did Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron present to the grand jury? Did he present any evidence on Breonna Taylor’s behalf?”

Following the unfortunate incident, Taylor’s family called for the arrest of all the three policemen involved in the killing, however, one has been charged so far. In June, Brett Hankison was fired from the police department and is accused of wanton endangerment, a felony for firing shots at Taylor’s apartment.

Since the jury’s first calling, her family mother said in her first statement that she never had faith in the prosecutor, Cameron, the first-ever black attorney. On Wednesday, Taylor’s mother stated that she was reassured that she has no faith in the police or the law. In a statement, which was read by Taylor’s aunt, Tamika Palmer said, “They are not made to protect us Black and brown people.”

Her statement further added that Cameron had the power to end the 400 years of oppression and the chance to do the right thing by healing the city rocked by unrest in recent months. She said that he proved that they are never safe when it comes to them.

Hankison, Jonathan Mattingly, and Myles Cosgrove, these three police officers, were executing a search warrant on March 13. They forced their way into the apartment where Taylor, along with her boyfriend, was in their bed.

Walker decided to pull the trigger of his licensed gun and later stated that he fired because he thought her boyfriend had managed to break into her apartment. According to a ballistics report from the FBI, a total of 32 rounds were discharged, and Taylor was hot amid the connotation and died on the hallway floor.
