Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said on Friday that the government was open to discussions with New Zealand that whether Australian mass murderer Brenton Tarrant, who has been jailed for life in Christchurch, should serve his sentence in his home country.

However, Morrison said that he has not received any formal request but was prepared to talk about it with his counterpart Jacinda Ardern. He said ”We’ll have an open discussion and look at the issues around this,” adding that the views of the affected families will be considered.

He said that all the Australians and New Zealanders want this murderer to spend his life in prison and should never be allowed to see the sun again.
During the hearings in Christchurch on Thursday, many families of the victims urged the court to send him back to his country. Moreover, it was also echoed by the foreign minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters, who maintained that it was fair and logical that the terrorist is removed from the country.
Earlier on Thursday, the Australian-born white supremacist was sentenced to life without parole for the attacks on two Mosques in Christchurch, killing 51 Muslim worshippers and many severely injured.
In 2017, Tarrant, a former gym instructor from the Australian state of New South Wales moved to New Zealand and started planning the attack on the city’s Muslim community. Even though New Zealand and Australia have close visa arrangements, there is no prisoner transfer deal, which could create a hurdle to any change in Tarrant’s imprisonment.
