SpaceX Falcon 9 is is set to Launch Three Canadian Observation Satellites

SpaceX is reaching new heights under the leadership of Elon Musk, the billionaire who owns Tesla Motors. Now, SpaceX is going to launch three Canadian satellites into space.

SpaceX will prepare its release of Canadian satellites through the Falcon 9. These satellites will launch today. The launch time of the flights is 7:17 Pacific time. Falcon 9will deploy these radar-imaging satellites, after an hour.

Canadian Space Radarsat-2 satellite is the predecessor of The Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM). Radarsat-1 and Radarsat-2 were single satellite missions. However, this mission uses three satellites, which will increase the overall frequency. It also makes it the most challenging missions.

Aerospace and Launch Photographer, Jack Beyer have confirmed that Falcon 9 will release all the satellites on Wednesday with a single launch.

This Radarsat satellite is similar to the earlier versions. It contains an RCM satellite, which has a C-band aperture radar payload. An antenna is present on it, which transmits the signal to the surface, which then deflects back. The satellite listens and processes the echoes and then forms an image of the ground below. SAR imaging satellites are used which help observe any kind of anomaly in the weather. However, taking pictures requires the sky to be clear.

These satellites will have a wide range of applications. They will be used to monitor disaster and ecological environment. The government of Canada will benefit the most from these satellites. They will use these satellites to get a clear map view of the sea ice present in the oceans of Canada. The satellites also have receivers, which help them tag ships of interest. They will also help farmers improve the yield of their crops. Other uses of this satellite include reducing energy usage.

The satellite will also provide maps of the Arctic Sea and North Atlantic Sea. They will also monitor weather changes in the atmosphere and advise the people accordingly. For example, in the case of a hurricane and storm, they will inform the people before the weather department.

Probably the biggest use of these satellites is their use in disaster management. These satellites will take images of flood, earthquakes, and storms, which will help the emergency teams to act accordingly. RCM will also help in monitoring pollution and oil spills.

The radar imaging on the RCM operates in the C-band. The frequency is 5.4 gigahertz. It has the ability to produce high-resolution images between 5 and 50 meters and a width of 20 to 350 km. Each of the three satellites also contains four Automatic Identification System, which will help in picking signals from other ships. This will help in tracking data for vessels out of range and keep the ship crew safe.

The planning of the Radar Constellation mission started back in 2004, even before the launch of Radarsat-2. This idea was pitched to the Canadian government. In the next few years, the Canadian Space Agency identified the requirements for the satellite and found out the requirements to make the satellite. A preliminary design was completed in 2010. The Canadian Space Agency started working on the aircraft in 2013. The next five years were rigorous work and intensive testing of satellites. These three satellites were completed by the end of 2018.

MacDonald, Dettwiler, and Associates built these three identical satellites. They used the MAC-200 platform to construct these spacecrafts. Each spacecraft weighs over 1400 kilograms. The radar antenna is 6.9 meters long.

SpaceX launched the first of Falcon 9 once before, in March. However, it was just on a testing basis. Currently, the spacecraft is awaiting its launch.

The Canadian Space Agency is optimistic about this Spacecraft. They have been looking up to this day for over 7 years. Let us hope that this mission of SpaceX ends in complete success.
