Armed robbers threatens attack on Osun estate residents unless N20m is paid

The Osun State Police Command has allayed the fears of residents of Olofa Estate in Ofatedo over a letter written to them by a gang of armed robbers threatening attack unless N20m is contributed for them.

The community has been thrown into panic after receiving the letter dropped in some strategic areas by the suspected robbers on Wednesday.

In the Letter sighted on Thursday, the robbers threatened to kill all the guards in the community and said that no house would be spared during the attack.

A copy of the letter read in part: “This is to inform you all that we thieves are coming to this community. We won’t spare any house or else you contribute a sum of N20m and keep it with the chairman. We will only visit and take the money from him. We will kill all your watchmen if they try to stop us. We are coming with full force.”

The letter was written in both Yoruba and English, according to a Resident of the area who didn’t want to be named. The source told The Guardian that the letters had created fear in the area, lamenting that many residents were afraid to move around.

But the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, asked the residents not to entertain fear, assuring them of police readiness to forestall any attack.

“Concerning the threat by criminals to attack Offatedo community, people should not entertain any fear. We are fully prepared for them.

“The commissioner of police is using this medium to encourage everyone to swiftly report any strange movement in their community to the police on these phone numbers: Osun Police Control Room numbers; 08039537995 and 08123823981,” the statement read.
