3 vital promises IGP Usman Alkali Baba made to Nigerians after assuming office

For years, citizens have lost confidence in the police force and for obvious reasons constantly doubted the ability of policemen to reduce the menace of insecurity to an insignificant level.

Community policing

In a report by Nigerian Tribune, the police chief assured citizens that his tenure will prioritise Community Policing as a key strategy to fight and stamp out terrorise in all its ramifications.

Stating that he will continue from where his predecessor left off, Baba said:

“We will continue to practice it. My predecessor has left at the theoretical stage, we have started it but we have not gone far and, therefore, all the methods have been put in place and we are going to continue with it in collaboration with other stakeholders.” 

Improvement in the security situation

The IGP also said there will be a commendable improvement in Nigeria's Security Situation and therefore, called on all and sundry to assist the police they tackle criminality under a vibrant leadership.

He also assured Nigerians that he will make banditry, terrorism, and calls for secession history in the nation.

Change in operational approach

More pointedly, IGP Baba noted that there will be a drastic change in the force's Operational Approach in tackling insecurity throughout the country.

In a report by Punch, he declared:

I am also encouraged by the fact that the outgoing IGP has laid a solid foundation and entrenched a culture of professional efficiency in the Force. 

"These will stimulate me in my capacity as the new acting IGP, to strengthen our strategies and provide the requisite leadership that will change the narratives in relation to our operational approach to the current security threats.”
