A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years of Rigorous Imprisonment by a local court in Mizoram’s Champhai district for raping a minor, an official said on Friday.
The additional district and sessions judge R. Vanlalena convicted Tlanghluilova, a resident of Champhai Hospital Veng, on Thursday. He was also fined Rs 9,000.
According to Champhai police, Tlanghluilova raped the girl, who was then nine years, several times at his home in May 2015.
Following an FIR lodged by the victim’s mother, police ran an investigation which eventually led to the arrest of the accused.
The district court heard the case several times and came out with its verdict on Thursday after a medical report confirming rape was submitted.
The accused is currently lodged in Champhai district jail.
