Gio has Rangers boardroom 'backing' as Dutch insider insists boss WON'T be sacked during World Cup break

Dutch football insider Marcel van der Kraan reckons Rangers will stand by Gio van Bronckhorst until after the World Cup.

Record Sport revealed over the weekend he club are yet to hold talks with the manager over his position as he jets off back home for a break while the season goes on ice. We reported earlier that despite their poor recent form, he has some sympathy from decision-makers due to the injury crisis he has had to contend with and that means the board aren't rushing to a decision.

Poor results against St Johnstone and St Mirren have nonetheless caused plenty of unrest among fans who have watched rivals Celtic race nine points clear. And they have voiced frustrations at the silence from the board, who are yet to make a public statement either way on the manager's future.

Well known pundit Van der Kraan reckons that's because they are prepared to stand by the manager for now. He reckons Van Bronckhorst is counting on their support after their run to the Europa League final last season, and thinks it would be "unfair" for the club to pull the trigger before he has had a chance to redeem himself after the break.

Journalist Van der Kraan said: "I think he's counting on the fact he will be there once the World Cup is over. He's gone on holiday at the moment, he is aware that there is some unrest among the fans.

"But if you look at the way he entered the club...Rangers is a massive club in Scotland and has a reputation in Europe, you can see that with how they went to the Europa League Final.

"He had very little to invest, but they carried on in the Champions League this season. They played against all the big teams with a very limited squad, and that squad was not built for the Champions League, and the Scottish league, and the cup (all at once).

"Ten injuries at the moment, he knows he has to work harder with his team, but he needs players. He has the backing of the board very much, and he is counting on the backing of the board, because they have not invested any more, and if you see the amount of injuries they've had, it would be very unfair to sack him."
