Artists like Central Cee, Wolf Alice, KSI and Wet Leg are at the forefront of an Indie Music Surge, with independent labels' share of the UK music market having grown to just under 27% in 2021.

New analysis based on data and published in the BPI's annual yearbook All About The Music 2022 proves the independent music scene's thriving, boosted by classic LP releases and an abundance of indie records hitting the Official Albums Chart.

The report reveals that independents' share of artist album sales reached 34.2% in 2021, thanks to albums including Central Cee's debut Wild West, Arlo Parks' Collapsed in Sunbeams and Wolf Alice's Blue Weekend.

The collective share of music consumption in the UK attributable to independent labels rose to stand at 26.9% in 2021. This was up from 25.9% in 2020 and is markedly higher than the 22.1% figure registered in 2017.
