During its eight-season run, "Desperate Housewives" garnered seven Emmys and countless devoted fans who ate up the ABC primetime soap's crazy storylines —including babies swapped at birth, dead bodies in freezers and affairs aplenty. The delightfully over-the-top series debuted on Oct. 3, 2004, with core cast members Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross playing ladies living on the same fictional suburban street and hiding all manner of dark secrets. Marcia Cross took a two-year career hiatus after "Desperate Housewives" ended in 2012 and then starred on the unsuccessful Fox comedy pilot "Fatrick" in 2014. Soon came roles in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Quantico." Marcia, who has twin daughters Eden and Savannah with husband Tom Mahoney, announced in June 2019 that she had anal cancer. Now in remission, Marcia has been an advocate to increase public awareness and reduce stigma associated with the illness. "Nobody wants to come forward. I knew that people were suffering and people were ashamed," she said in 2019. "In spite of the optics, I care deeply about saving lives."

Eva Longoria played Gabrielle Solis, a fiery former model who became a housewife with a penchant for shopping… and the family's gardener.

Eva Longoria went from "Desperate Housewives" … to "Devious Maids." She served as executive producer on the Lifetime series from 2013 to 2016 and also executive produced the social-issue documentaries "Food Chains" and "The Harvest." Eva didn't stop working in front of the camera, though, starring on the short-lived NBC sitcom "Telenovela" in 2015 and appearing in films like 2018's "Dog Days" and "Overboard." Eva's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker ended in 2010 after three years amid his cheating scandal, and in 2016, she wed Mexican businessman José Bastón. They welcomed son Santiago two years later. Eva has moved on from her most famous project, but she hasn't ruled out reuniting with her fellow housewives. "I miss being Gaby. I miss being on that set," she told New Beauty magazine in 2017. "I miss everything about it."

Felicity Huffman portrayed Lynette Scavo, a harried mom of five who dealt with crises ranging from a cancer diagnosis to being kidnapped by a murderous teenager.

After "Desperate Housewives," Felicity Huffman starred on the ABC anthology crime drama "American Crime" from 2015 to 2017, receiving critical acclaim and three Emmy nominations for her performance. But she became the subject of a notorious crime story when she was arrested in March 2019 and accused of taking part in a nationwide college entrance exam cheating scandal. Felicity pleaded guilty to paying $15,000 to have a proctor fix incorrect SAT answers for her eldest daughter and was sentenced to 14 days in federal prison, which she served in October 2019. Felicity, who also shares daughter Georgia with husband William H. Macy, also was hit with a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service and one year of supervised release. The actress (seen here with her spouse in a rare post-prison public appearance at the 2021 Emmy Awards) has signed on for her first acting gig since the scandal: She'll play the lead in an ABC pilot for a comedy show about a minor league baseball team, the Sacramento River Cats.

Teri Hatcher played Susan Mayer, a girl-next-door with an uncanny tendency to attract trouble — like those times when her house was set on fire, she fell in love with someone else while her boyfriend was in a coma, and her husband died in her arms after being gunned down on their doorstep.

Teri Hatcher has kept a fairly low profile since her days on Wisteria Lane. She voiced the character of Dottie in the 2013 Disney movie "Planes" and its sequel, "Planes: Fire & Rescue," and had recurring roles on the TV shows "The Odd Couple" and "Supergirl." Teri, an avid baker, has embraced her passion, winning both a holiday episode of "Chopped" and an episode of "The Great British Bake Off." In recent years, Teri has returned to the small screen, reuniting with her "Housewives" hubby James Denton for the Hallmark TV movie "A Kiss Before Christmas." Teri is mom to daughter Emerson, who was born in 1997, with ex-husband Jon Tenney.

As saucy Edie Britt, Nicollette Sheridan was described as the "most predatory divorcée" by the show's narrator. She had no shortage of shocking storylines — but the biggest Edie bombshell was when she died suddenly during the fifth season. Nicollette's character was killed off during a messy feud between the former "Knots Landing" actress and show creator Marc Cherry that culminated in her $20 million lawsuit against him and ABC in 2010 that alleged he had assaulted her on set and wrongfully terminated her contract. (The case ended in a mistrial two years later.)

After her tumultuous exit from "Desperate Housewives," Nicollette Sheridan appeared in a number of Hallmark movies and starred on the CW's 2018 "Dynasty" reboot until she left the show the following year to spend more time with her terminally ill mother. In 2019, she launched her own skincare brand, Biolumière Organics. Nicollette, who was married to Harry Hamlin for less than a year in the early '90s and then dated Michael Bolton for three years, in 2015 married Aaron Phypers, the owner of a Malibu healing center. The pair split six months later — and he went on to marry Denise Richards in 2018.

As hot gardener John Rowland, Jesse Metcalfe set pulses racing on Wisteria Lane — especially for Eva Longoria's Gaby. She had a steamy affair with John before he moved onto another neighbor, Joan, and later started a relationship with Gaby's niece.

After "Desperate Housewives" launched him — and his six-pack — to fame, Jesse Metcalfe headlined the 2006 movie "John Tucker Must Die" and the TNT reboot of "Dallas." He's since starred in a steady string of Hallmark TV movies and the Hallmark drama series "Chesapeake Shores," and in 2020, he hit the dance floor to compete on "Dancing With The Stars," finishing in 12th place. As for romance, Jesse and actress Cara Santana got engaged in 2016 but broke it off in 2020.

Brenda Strong played Mary Alice Young, who narrated the events of her friends' and neighbors' lives from beyond the grave after she died by suicide. Mary Alice voiced all eight seasons and only appeared on screen in flashbacks.

Ricardo Antonio Chavira played Carlos Solis, Gabrielle's workaholic husband whose memorable dastardly deeds included switching out her birth control pills to trick her into getting pregnant and going to prison for committing homophobic hate crimes.

Post-"Housewives" life for Vanessa Williams has included a slew of TV shows including "The Librarians," "Daytime Divas" and "Girls5Eva." In her 2012 memoir, "You Have No Idea," which she co-authored with mother Helen, Vanessa detailed her rise to fame and various personal struggles including her Type 1 diabetes diagnosis and her molestation at age 10 by a woman. Next up professionally for the singer and theater veteran: a starring role in "POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumb*** Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive," scheduled to open on Broadway on April 14, 2022. Vanessa, who in 2016 launched the clothing line V. by Vanessa Williams, has four children: Melania, Jillian and Devin with her first husband, Ramon Hervey II; and Sasha with her second husband, former NBA star Rick Fox. Steven Culp played Bree's first husband, Rex Van de Camp, who died in the show's first season after being poisoned by George the pharmacist, who was (duh) infatuated with Bree. Rex later made several appearances in flashbacks throughout the series and narrated an episode from beyond the grave in season 3.

Dana Delany left "Desperate Housewives" to star on the ABC series "Body of Proof," which ran from 2011 to 2013. She's kept busy ever since with credits including "Hand of God," "The Comedians," "The Code" and "The American Guest" miniseries. In 2016, Dana became a guest host on Turner Classic Movies and has appeared in dozens of segments on the channel, filling in for TCM's longtime host, film historian Robert Osborne. The actress, who never married, has said she has no regrets. "I have tried hard all my life not to be a desperate housewife. I grew up with '70s feminism and I try to hold true to those principles. A job is often a better bet than many men, and more fulfilling," Dana told the Daily Mail in 2008. "Once in a while I think about it, especially now that it's too late, but I just really like having my freedom."

James Denton played dreamy Mike Delfino, who moved to the area in search of his missing wife… but ended up marrying Teri Hatcher's Susan Mayer.

Then came roles on "How I Met Your Mother," "Portlandia," "The Good Wife," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and the 2017 limited series "Twin Peaks," for which he reprised his career-defining role as Special Agent Dale Cooper. After high-profile relationships with Laura Dern, Lara Flynn Boyle and Linda Evangelista, the actor wed publicist Desiree Gruber in 2002. His latest project? Playing Howard Baskin, the mild-mannered third husband of Carole Baskin of "The Tiger King" fame, on the 2022 Peacock series "Joe vs. Carole."

He's also appeared on "Homeland" and "Grey's Anatomy" and more recently starred on the FOX police drama "Deputy." Mark has been married to actress Annie LaRussa since 1988; they have two children.

Neal McDonough joined the show in its fifth season as Dave Williams, Edie Britt's creepy husband. It turns out, not surprisingly, that he had a very personal ulterior motive for moving onto Wisteria Lane.

On the small screen, he had recurring roles on FX's "Justified" and The CW's "Arrow" and played President Dwight D. Eisenhower on "American Horror Story" in 2021.
