Hin Ta Hin Yai

Hin Ta Hin Yai Koh Samui Thailand

If you’re looking for a chill place for sunset with some great views and funny Rock formations then you should check out the Hin ta Hin Yai rocks on Koh Samui. Many tourists are usually looking for something interesting and unique so if you’re on Samui then you should check this place out. Some people like to taking pictures of their ice cream cones at different locations around the world, others like to take cheesy pics like holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but if you’re looking for a couple hardfuls of hard rock then come here!

Grandfather and Granfather Rocks

The Words Hin ta and Hin Yai actually mean Grandfather and Grandmother in Thai, so locally, these are known as the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks. As you can see in the above pic, it’s easy to tell which rock resembles a penis, but it took me a while until I realized which one was the “grandmother rock”.

In this above shot it’s a little easier to tell which formation best resembles a females sexual organs, but when it’s staring you right in the face it’s a little less conspicuous. If you still can’t tell which one it is, it’s the formation nearest to my left with the crack down the middle and a figurative clitoris on top the metaphorical female folds.

Located on the southeastern coast of the island, in between Lamai and Hua Thanon it’s an easy 30-minute motorbike ride from Chaweng Beach. These interesting and unusual rock formations have become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Samui outside of the Beaches and Nightlife. You can easily spend a few hours here checking out the small shops, eating at one of the few restaurant options, or chillin at the adjacent Samui Rock Bar.

The rock bar is a great place to relax after sunset. This bar specializes in reggae music and occasional fires show while you kick back and listen to the wave. This bar is open pretty late too so you can head there in the evening to view the moon and stars on a warm clear night. During the day you can also come here and use the small beach located to the left when you’re facing the water.

Having stay in Samui for two months in the past, I was living near Lamai Beach so whenever I met a new traveler we would usually head here to hangout for a few. There are also some decent waterfalls nearby like Na Muang or I would also recommend checking out crystal bay or Lamai Beach.
