If you are struggling to get some proper rest after having your Baby, read on for some tips for helping your baby sleep better so that you can get some good rest as well!

To Help Your Baby Sleep Avoid Eye Contact

Exciting your baby before bed time is the last thing that you want to do. It may come as a surprise to you but extended or animated eye contact with your baby is extremely stimulating for a little one. The cure is to avoid eye contact when putting your baby to sleep or calming him or her down upon waking.

Bath Your Baby to Relax Her

Know how you like your warm baths? A nice warm bath relaxes most people. To do the same for your baby lose all the bath toys and lower your voice and bath activity. This will be nice and smoothing for baby and pave the way for the sandman.

Co-sleeping With Baby

There are camps that are both for and against children co-sleeping with parents. However, there are studies that show children who co-sleep with their parents grow up with higher self-esteem and less anxiety. If you want to co-sleep with your baby safely put a co-sleeper or bassinet next to your bed. Sharing a bed with your baby is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dreamfeed Your Hungry Baby

“Dreamfeeding” your baby might help if your baby wakes at night hungry. a dreamfeed might help. This term  coined by Robert Bucknam, M.D. actually refers to a parent-directed, late-evening feeding. Rather than waiting for your baby to wake up hungry you feed her before your go to bed while she is still asleep. Some people believe that this extra feeding fills up your baby’s belly just enough, so you get more interrupted sleep.

To Help Your Baby Sleep, Empty the Crib

You should keep your baby’s sleeping area free of everything but your baby. Blankets, bumpers and stuffed animals can be hazardous. These can increase the chance of suffocation or choking. All your baby needs is a fitted sheet on his mattress. If you’re worried about your baby being warm, you can try a sleep sack instead of a loose blanket.

Lull Your Baby with Fragrance

A drop or two of natural lavender oil on a tissue near your baby’s bed might work to lull her to sleep bed. But while lavender and other essential oils are known for their relaxation and anti-anxiety benefits these fragrances are not recommended for any child 6 months old or less. If your baby is too young or if you find that your baby has a sensitive nose or skin, skip that fragranced tissue. You can also try unscented laundry detergent when washing crib bedding to reduce discomfort.

Be Hands on With Your Baby to Help Him Sleep

When putting your baby into the crib for bedtime you can sooth her by putting your hand gently on her stomach, arms and head. This may provide extra comfort. You may find that simply being close greatly boosts your baby’s security at night.

To Get Ideal Sleep Pick an Established Bedtime

Overtire babies are often impossible to get to sleep. It is important to have an established bedtime. Many experts believe that between 6:30 and 7 p.m. is an appropriate bedtime for babies one year old or less. You will want to take into account your work schedule and your baby’s need to spend quality time with you. Despite the cliched saying “Early to bed, early to rise”, this is not necessarily true. A good  night’s sleep can often result in later wake-up times.
