5 Healthy Garlic Based Dishes

Tags: garlic

Garlic is pungent, sweet and has the power to make anything taste delicious! You know you crave it so now it’s time to indulge with the help of these five healthy Garlic based dishes.

Garlic Chicken and Roasted Endives

This meal begins with garlic butter. Just melt 3 sticks of butter, add 2 minced cloves of garlic when melted and brown over medium-high heat until the butter is golden. When done, place as many chicken breasts as you plan to serve in a baking dish with three additional minced cloves. Follow by seasoning with salt, black pepper and liberally brush the chicken with garlic butter. Make sure the softened pieces of garlic make their way into the dish. Then, bake the chicken in a 400-degree oven until the internal temperature reaches a safe 160 degrees Fahrenheit. As for the endives, halve and place into the oven to roast for 15 minutes after brushing with garlic butter. Just serve something mint for dessert. Fresh mint sorbet, anyone?

Garlicky Steak and Asparagus Sauté

This garlicky steak and asparagus sauté is packed with bold flavor and requires a single skillet. Even better, this healthy garlic-based dish requires minimal prep. Just trim one bunch of asparagus and cut into 1-inch pieces, mince 4 garlic cloves, and cut half a pound of sirloin into strips. Then, heat about a tablespoon of oil in a skillet, cook the steak, add the garlic when browned followed by the asparagus, a splash of soy sauce and cook while stirring until asparagus is tender yet crisp. This makes about two servings. Either double up on your servings (you deserve it), save half for tomorrow’s lunch or share with someone willing to eat right out of the skillet with you.

Garlic Pea Soup with Garlic-Rubbed Bread

Pea soup gets a bad rap. Maybe its use in the popular 1970s supernatural horror film has something to do with it. Anyway, peas are sweet, have that lovely green hue and nothing pairs with their flavor better than garlic! For the soup, add a generous drizzle of oil to a pot and sauté 1/2 cup of chopped onion until fragrant. Then, add 6 peeled garlic cloves, salt, and black pepper. Once garlic softens, pour in 5 cups of vegetable broth followed by 2 cups of dried split peas. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, cover and cook until tender. Once done, puree until smooth. As for the bread, give crusty bread a quick toast, rub with a garlic clove and drizzle with olive oil.

Garlicky Avocado Grilled Cheese on Whole Wheat with a Fried Egg

This fun play on a grilled cheese is packed with healthy fat. Mash 1 small avocado with one clove of minced garlic, spread onto a piece of whole wheat bread, add a slice of cheese and cook in a pan with a drizzle of olive oil until crisp. Once done, add additional oil to the same pan, and fry an egg to top your sandwich with.

Garlic Pasta with Spinach and Parmesan

This pasta dish allows ingredients to speak for themselves and their message is clear! Cook your favorite pasta according to the packaging instructions and drain. Then, add about ¼ cup of olive oil into a pan and heat. When hot, add 5 minced garlic cloves and cook until softened. Once softened and fragrant, add the cooked pasta followed by a generous amount of parmesan cheese and spinach. The spinach will wilt, and all the flavors will come together. At this point all there’s left to do is season to taste and devour!
