The Best Cameras for Architectural Photography

Whether you’re just getting started with Architectural Photography, or you want to make a career of it one day, you likely know how important your equipment is.  Second only to your skills and techniques, the equipment you use can make or break a photograph.  Cameras are available for all different budgets these days, which means you shouldn’t have too many restrictions if just getting started.  Below are our favorite cameras for architectural photography in 2019.

1. Canon EOS 80D

If you’re not limited by your budget, the Canon EOS 80D is one of the top cameras out there for architectural photography.  The successor to the EOS 70D, this camera enables you to work with continuous shooting while capturing stills; a great feature for architectural photography.  The battery life is really good, and it’s also weather proof, which is ideal for those shoots when you want to capture the exterior of buildings in rainy or snowy conditions.

2. Sony Alpha a6000

The Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless camera is half the price of the Canon mentioned above but is still a great choice.  For those who like to reduce the noise of their photos, this camera is ideal as it comes with Sony’s ‘Area Specific Noise Reduction’ technology, which lets photographers increase the ISO by quite a bit without affecting the noise.  This makes the Sony Alpha a top choice for those who like to take photographs of interior architecture, especially in dim settings.  For an amateur camera, it’s a top choice!

3. Canon EOS Rebel

Another great option from Canon is the EOS Rebel.  This is an excellent all-round device that makes great use of Canon’s autofocus setting, enabling photographers to take great captures with moving subjects.  Because of this, it’s an ideal choice for those who want to get started by taking photos of architectural hotspots.  A wide range of lens options is available for the Rebel, and it’s also much cheaper than the 80D.  With Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity also included as standard, it’s a good choice for everyone but top professionals.

4. Nikon D5300

The Nikon D5300 is a budget camera, but it still has a lot to offer.  In fact, Nikon has released some great DSLRs for the mass market, and this definitely fits into that category.  It’s able to mount a lot of Nikon’s lenses and also has a 39-point AF selection range, which, while standard for cameras of this price point, it will enable you to take some fantastic shots.  The built-in Wi-Fi is also useful, especially for those who want to upload their photos as they go.  While it’s not suitable for professional photographers, it’s still a good choice for those new to the industry.

Architectural photography is something that anyone can pick up, but that takes a lot of skills to master.  Whether you are an amateur or a professional, the four cameras listed above are good choices.  Let us know which your favorite camera is in the comments.
