Walkie Talkie is now widely available in Microsoft Teams

All Microsoft Teams users will be able to use the Walkie Talkie feature today, as Microsoft makes it general availability. Microsoft Teams users can turn their smartphones or tablets into walkie-talkies with Walkie Talkie, which works over cellular data or Wi-Fi.

The original announcement was made two years ago, and it has mostly been in preview ever since. Originally launching on Android devices in September of 2020, the feature has now been rolled out to iPhones and iPads as well as Zebra mobile devices.

This appears to be targeted at front-line employees, those who deal with customers on a daily basis and run businesses on a day-to-day basis.

It works with a dedicated push-to-talk button for quick and secure communications thanks to Zebra Technologies’ collaboration.

Frontline workers use these devices, as they have helped guide the world through the ongoing pandemic.

It is still rare for communication apps to include a walkie-talkie feature. You can record audio snippets in WhatsApp and Slack’s Huddles feature last year made it easy to get in and out of calls.

In 2018, Apple introduced its own walkie-talkie feature for the Apple Watch as a push-to-talk over FaceTime Audio.
