If you were holding a contest to find the cutest breed of dogs, you’d be hard-pressed to find a cuter dog than a Teddybear Goldendoodle. Just the name is sweet enough, but with their wavy, curly coat and big round eyes, these cute canines are sure to make you love them in an instant.

Now, we know dog owners will probably always argue that their best friend is the cutest, but a Teddybear Goldendoodle can give any other breed of dog a run for their money. Their happy, content, and friendly nature endears them right away to anyone they may meet. 

And have you seen a Teddybear Goldendoodle’s eyes? Those bright round eyes behind the scruffy curls will melt your heart in an instant. 

So how and why are these pups so darn cute? Well, it has a lot to do with their breeding. Let’s start with a basic Goldendoodle.

Goldendoodles

Goldendoodles are a popular hybrid breed that comes from breeding a Poodle with a Golden Retriever. These parent breeds each have specific characteristics that make them special and sought-after, and many of these qualities are combined in a Goldendoodle. 

Like Poodles, Goldendoodles have a more hypoallergenic coat than many other dogs. The size of the parent Poodle largely determines the size of a Goldendoodle. A standard Poodle bred with a Golden Retriever will result in a Goldendoodle between 50-90 pounds when fully grown, while a miniature Poodle parent will most likely result in a 15-30 pound miniature Goldendoodle. 

There are also medium Goldendoodles, but these usually come from breeding previous generations of Goldendoodles. 

The characteristics Goldendoodles get from Golden Retriever parents make them extremely loyal dogs with friendly personalities and a desire to socialize with humans and other dogs. Both Golden Retrievers and Poodles tend to be easier to train and enjoy activities that challenge their physical and mental abilities. 

One of the best things about Goldendoodles is the way the best of both parent breeds are showcased in this hybrid breed to create what is known as hybrid vigor. This means that the offspring end up being healthier than either of the pure-bred parent breeds. 

Now, there is some controversy over the term hybrid vigor, but the fact is that Goldendoodles are an overall healthy breed with few concerns in regards to disease and complications.

All these qualities make Goldendoodles wonderful dogs for families and emotional support dogs. So what makes a Teddybear Goldendoodle different from any other Goldendoodle?

Teddybear Goldendoodles

First, it should be noted that Teddybear Goldendoodles are not considered a separate breed. In fact, the American Kennel Club doesn’t even recognize Goldendoodles as its own breed, let alone the specific Teddybear variety. But there are still some things about Teddybear Goldendoodles that are distinct from other Goldendoodles.

A Teddybear Goldendoodle is the result of a specific type of Retriever parent. White Golden Retrievers, also known as English Cream Golden Retrievers, are lighter than a standard Golden Retriever and tend to be even more laid-back and obedient. Even though they are called White, the term English Cream is probably more appropriate since they will all have some golden color in their coat.

But it’s not just the lighter coat that makes a difference in this Teddybear hybrid breed. English Cream Golden Retrievers also feature a bit more of a boxy face, rounder eyes, and a smaller stature. These are the qualities that give the cute “teddy bear” appearance that is so sweet. 

Again, depending on the size of the parent Poodle, Teddybear Goldendoodles come in a variety of different sizes. It is important to remember, however, that the size of the dog can vary even with estimates for height and weight. Just because the parent Poodle is miniature does not necessarily guarantee that the Teddybear Goldendoodle will be as small as the forecasted estimated size. 

Similarly, the color of a Teddybear Goldendoodle can’t always be determined or guaranteed. There is a wide range of colors from dark brown, red, cream, and any combination in between, depending on the genetics of the specific parents. 

But the good news is that no matter the size or color of the puppy, a Teddybear Goldendoodle will be adorable and continue to grow in cuteness over time. Many Goldendoodle puppies have that sweet teddy bear look but quickly outgrow it (albeit they are still cute in their own right). Teddybear Goldendoodles retain the round eyes and boxy face of the English Cream Golden Retrievers into adulthood.  

Care

Caring for a Teddybear Goldendoodle is not different than a Goldendoodle, or a Poodle or Golden Retriever, for that matter. They are very social dogs, so they don’t do well being left alone for long periods and enjoy interacting with others as much as possible. They are fairly active and should get at least an hour of exercise each day, as well as experiences that will offer mental exercise. 

Proper diet and nutrition are essential to the health of every dog, and Teddybear Goldendoodles are no exception. Not every dog food is the same, so make sure you read the labels and find the right fit for your dog’s needs. 

It’s also important to stay up to date on your dog’s vaccinations for their health and safety, as well as any dogs or other animals they come in contact with. If you have adopted a dog, be sure to verify the vaccination status and follow up with a veterinarian for any missed vaccinations.
