Abracadaver

Hello everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So it’s 2020, which means I can start Challenge 2020! The Book I started with was ‘A Book You Could Read in A Day’ which means my first book is Abracadaver by Peter Lovesey.

The Music Halls of London are becoming a dangerous place to be. A practical joker is haunting them with sinister intentions. A trapeze artist misses her landing when the ropes on her trapeze are shortened, a comedian who invites his audience to sing with him finds the words of his songs have been somewhat altered, a sword swallowers blade has had mustard applies to it, a costume has been rigged and a magicians assistant is trapped in a box.

All of this seems like a series of unfortunate events when they realise each of these incidents have occurred at different times in different music halls.

Then all this joking around escalates…to murder. But was it an escalation or was it the true intention all along?

Sergeant Cribb and Constable Thackeray are on the case. Together they must put the pieces of this puzzle together and figure out who this joker is, before anyone else gets hurt.

This is the third book in the Sergeant Cribb series but it’s the first that I’ve read. Honestly, the blurb makes this book sound amazing, it really does capture the imagination! I expected more honestly.

This book greatly disappointed me, yes I managed to read it in a day but it was a struggle. It was quite easy to put down and wasn’t one of those books that I was eager to pick back up. So disappointed that there weren’t really any quotes I could pull from the book to use in my review.

You can get it on Amazon.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t quite decided which book will be next to be read from my Challenge 2020, but you all will be the first to know!

Until next time,

D x
