Oniru’s death a great loss ― Gani Adams

Aare Onakakanfo Of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has expressed sadness over the passing of Oniru of Iru land, Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru, describing it as as a great loss.

The monarch died on Monday, aged 82, while traditional rites pertaining to his exit have started, as the palace and the people are still mourning.

The Aareonakakanfo said on Thursday in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, on Thursday, even as he prayed for the repose of the soul of the late monarch, who he described as a true custodian of Yoruba culture that would be greatly missed by the people.

“It is with a heavy heart that I join the good people of Lagos and the Iru land in particular to mourn the death of one of our revered monarchs, the late Oniru, who joined his ancestors last Monday.

“Though it was a great loss, I am happy the monarch lived a worthy life. He was a true custodian of Yoruba culture and he would be missed greatly by the people,” Iba Adams said.

Adams further spoke about the various qualities of the late monarch, saying the late Oniru, in his life, did everything to bring development to the Iru Kingdom.

“Baba will definitely live in the minds of so many people, especially, as he used his position and influence to transformed the entire Iru land, Victoria Island, Lagos, making it one of the most industrialized towns in Lagos state.

“During his reign, Iru land was peaceful and that truly accounted for the rapid development in the area,” he said.
